Lots of Broncos on the bargains list.

Tons of QBs on the bust list.

Praise from SI that's slanted towards the Broncos? Did Peter King compile this list or something? :)

"Cade McNown never did much, but he DID date a Playboy model."

I guess that makes him automatically better than Ryan Leaf!

Hey--Where's Priest? Didn't he get drafted in the 7th round? Or did he just get signed as a free agent?

And where the hell is Ryan Leaf? I didn't see him on the bust list.

Priest Holmes was undrafted.

Ryan Leaf was definitely on the bust list.

Ah--I didn't see Leaf the first time. I was stunned because IMO he is the top bust becasue of the damge he did to the Charger organization. I think they are just beginning to recover years later.

Man, the Colts really don't know how to draft..ha ha Almost half of the busts are former Colts players.

I disagree with labelling chronically injured players "busts".

Guys like KiJana Carter etc. whose talent was undermined by their inability to stay healthy are not busts, IMO.

Busts are the guys whose talent was paired with an equal degree of immaturity and nonchalance, like Ryan Leaf. Or guys who were just flat-out overrated by the teams involved, like Trezelle Jenkins or Akili Smith.

I would disagree. A player that gets injured and never recovers should not be despised. However the team still makes a huge investment in that player.

If the team invests a draft pick, signing bonus, CAP space, and roster spot on that player and never receives a return on the investment, then he is a bust.

No way does the 1987 4th round draft pick of the NE Patriots not make the "best" list. :shake:

Were is Will Shields? A third round pick that becomes the best player at his position in his generation.

I don't even have to click on the list to know it's crap.

Bosworth didn't live up to the hype, but there's no way he is the biggest bust of all time. I'd say SI is carrying a torch for the guy because they're one of the most guilty of overhyping him.

No Todd Blackledge?
More than 20 years ago. They have plenty of third round picks like Tyrone Braxton who were not perennial all-pros like Will Shields though.

Yeah, TD and Sharpe were definitely not 2 of the best late round bargins of the last 20 years. Why Braxton is on that list is a complete mystery though.

Your kidding right?

Sharpe seventh round pick went on to be the all time TE
TD sixth round pick rushed for over 2000 yards cut short by injury.

I'm pretty sure he accidentally threw a "not" in there, KP. At least, I'd like to think I'm so incredibly smart I can read minds....

There should be a list for guys like Priest Holmes and Rod Smith... undrafted guys that have rocked and had great - consistent - success and key parts to their teams.

As I quickly glanced through the bust list, Ryan Leaf was something like #15 or 16?

Just another reason SI sucks.

Thay're all a bunch of idiots.

I don't think the lists are ranked.

Think about it Why is Hines Ward a 3rd round pick who is not a Hall of Famer ranked higher then Shannon Sharpe who is a lock for the Hall of Fame?

This is just a list of bargains and busts not a ranking.

Surprised Eric Crouch wasn't on the list...even though he was only a 4th rounder, he certainly has proven to be a bust for any team that touched him...but I guess he came pretty cheap so maybe that's why...

If Shields is not on that list, then it has no credibility.

Anyone catch this?

Akili Smith
No. 3 overall, Cincinnati Bengals, 1998

Smith emerged after one good season at Oregon and almost went No. 1 over Tim Couch and Donovan McNabb. But Smith was destined to be a bust from the beginning. Not only was he selected by the Bengals - a reliable indicator of future flops - he was coached by QB guru Jeff Tedford in college. Tedford-coached quarterbacks -- Trent Dilfer, Joey Harrington and Kyle Boller - haven't had much NFL success. Aaron Rodgers is the next Tedford pupil to hit the draft.
