View Full Version : another WTF?!?: 1st pick, 7th round, QB James Kilian

Mr. Laz
04-24-2005, 02:53 PM
James Kilian Grade: 3.06
Position: QB
Class: Sr
School: Tulsa
Conference: WAC
Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 215
40 Time: 4.81
Grading System

BIO: Two year starter who passed for 54.6 percent/2,247/13/16 as a senior. All-Conference selection the prior year after 56.8 percent/2,217/22/11.

POSITIVES: Nice sized passer with a good command of the offense. Sets up in the pocket with solid footwork, senses the blitz and consistently remains poised. Does not rush, immediately finds the open wide out and accurate in the short or intermediate field. Displays a sense of timing and hits receivers as they leave their breaks.

NEGATIVES: Does not drive the ball downfield or display the ability to throw the pass on a rope. Coming of a poor senior campaign.

ANALYSIS: An excellent team leader who rarely makes mental mistakes, Kilian is a passer that consistently works to make positive plays. Offers some upside but needs repetition and must become accustomed to a pro style passing game.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

I like the part that he works to make plays and is a leader, hopefully this guy just had a bad year and is pretty good.

Take his senior year numbers with a grain of salt. His OL was terrible - he was sacked 35 times.

He's a developmental prospect with a big arm and great feet...

I don't know. It's just a f'ing 7th round pick. At least it wasn't a safety.

I trust Terry Shea. Let him work with the guy and hopefully he could be turned into the next Trent Green, thats why we didnt take a QB early, we wanted to take one that wouldnt have a chance at complaining about playing time just yet.

This guy has good size too, 6'3" 218 lbs, and if he has a good arm then that will go very well with our team.

obviously the coaches are no longer confident in Trint Green

We needed someone with a cannon arm to compensate for your new midget CB. :)

I just can't believe he got sacked 35 times. That's like 4 times PER GAME. He had to be sore at the end of the season.

I have followed the WAC fairly closely and Killian had a great coach in Tulsa that was Bledsoe's personal favorite. Killian singlehandedly took Tulsa to a respectable 7 win season in 03 when it was possibly the worst 1-A program in the country.

I asked a Tulsa fan. The response:

Obviously I think Kilian is a steal in the 7th round. He's tough as nails, has good size and a decent arm. He's also a fast learner who played two years under Coach Kragthorpe, who previously was the Buffalo Bills' quarterbacks coach.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he made the roster as the 3rd string QB his rookie year and challenged for the backup job the year after.

Carl Peterson took a QB. There's definitely something in the air at Arrowhead this year. Never heard of the guy but it's a start.

He looked pretty bad in Europe this last game, but I thought he looked gutsy last year in pre-season and that he might even move up and take Collin's seat or at least Huard's. He looks to have talent to me in the brief outings. But he looked better in NFL preseason than this most recent Europe game.
