Jeremy Parquet Grade: 3.54
Position: OT
Class: Sr
School: Southern Miss
Conference: C-USA
Ht., Wt.: 6-6.5, 323
40 Time: 5.37

BIO: Three-year starter awarded All-Conference honors as a senior. Used at both tackle spots as well as guard.

POSITIVES: Massive lineman with a good degree of athleticism. Powerful blocker who displays great punch with the ability to easily ride rushers from their angle of attack. Patient, stays square and controls opponents at the point. Works to keep his feet moving throughout the action. Plays with a nasty attitude and effective when he works to finish blocks. Has the ability to slide out off the edge in pass protection. Easily anchors at the point or blocks down on opponents.

NEGATIVES: Lacks adjustment, heavy legged and not quick to the second level. Marginal instincts and not overly aware. Inconsistent effort.

ANALYSIS: An offensive lineman with excellent size and versatility, Parquet is a dominant force when focused on the task at hand. Can effectively be used at several offensive line spots, though guard may be his best position. Possesses the potential to have a long and productive career in the NFL if he makes football a priority.

PROJECTION: Early Fourth Round

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has impressive size, long arms, solid midsection, big bubble and a frame that can add more bulk Carries his weight well and shows good short-area explosion Will compensate for his heavy feet by taking proper angles to neutralize linebackers at the second level Flashes quickness and agility working in space Plays until the whistle and is a smart player who is alert to games and stunts Works to finish blockers when working in-line Has adequate pop to reestablish position at the line of scrimmage Can position or drive block with equal efficiency for the ground game Uses his size well and shows a good kick slide in pass protection Has the lateral quickness and change-of-direction agility to make blocks in space Plays with a nasty, aggressive nature and is very adept at maintaining balance working in tight areas Displays the foot balance to hold his own vs. the edge rush Even with his wind-up hand punch (a little weak), his long arms allow him to deliver the reach blocks and make it tough for defensive ends attempting to turn the corner Shows good body control redirecting in-line and could see time at guard at the next level due to his trap-blocking ability Mentally tough blocker who reacts well to the defender's stunts and is very effective using his size to clear out the rush lanes.

Negatives: Has narrow shoulders and small bone structure Little stiff in the hips and struggles to bring his feet when on the move Rarely lunges or overextends, but does wind up a bit with his hands before making contact Is not what you'd consider a workout warrior in the weight room, but has made improvements in his work habits Has a tendency to let his feet die after generating a quick initial burst off the ball Hesitates before making contact and gets too erect in his stance at times, resulting in him getting pushed back vs. a strong bull rush Gets good hand placement, but fails to deliver much power behind his punch Has good lateral agility, but seems very reluctant to move his feet at times Tends to get lazy in the offseason and not only needs to be monitored, he must also develop better overall strength.

Sounds good to me. Someone just needs to stay on his ass.

Looks like we maybe got a steal here. He fell because he apparently isn't very strong.

ESPN Insider:
In our opinion, Parquet has the potential to develop into a starter in the NFL, which is why he grades out as a late-Day 1 or early-Day 2 prospects in the upcoming draft.

Kiper called him an underachiever. Aparently not very good bench at the combines. I guess that's what dropped him to 7th.

Per ESPN Insider:
Jeremy Parquet
OT (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draft05/tracker/position?id=46) | (6'6http://espn-att.starwave.com/i/nfl/trans/3_4.gif", 323, 5.34) | SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draft05/tracker/school?id=2412)

Strengths: Is a mammoth ROT prospect. Has adequate strength but is more of a mauler than anything. Has better lower body strength than upper body strength. He will play with balance and show the ability to mirror and slide as long as he doesn't get over-extended trying to get set against top speed rushers. He is very difficult to disengage from after he has locked on. He plays with good leverage in the running take. Is experienced and technically sound in that area. Takes solid angles and shows good initial pop. Has strong hands and arms. Will lock on, drive his legs and show a consistent ability to finish his blocks. He is clearly a better run blocker than pass protector. He has been a durable and reliable player throughout his career, as well.

Weaknesses: Is not a good athlete. He can hold up in pass protection against power rushers and athletic high-motor rushers, but speed is what kills him. Will struggle to match up against edge rushers with good speed and athleticism, because he tends to over-extend when he is out-classed by speed, which leads to him getting off-balance and becoming vulnerable to the double move. He does not look smooth and fluid as a space blocker in the running game, either. Finally, while he has good overall size and strength, he clearly is stronger in his lower body than he is in his upper body. He needs to become more powerful up top. Lacks explosiveness in his punch.

Overall: Parquet redshirted in 2000. He started in one-of-six games played in 2001 before moving into a fulltime starting role as a redshirt sophomore in 2002 and was a fulltime starter throughout his last three seasons at Southern Miss. Parquet is a prospect with great size who has continued to with each season of experience. He is strictly a right tackle prospect, as he is a mammoth OT that engulfs defenders at the point of attack but lacks the ideal mobility and athleticism of a starting left tackle in the NFL. In our opinion, Parquet has the potential to develop into a starter in the NFL, which is why he grades out as a late-Day 1 or early-Day 2 prospects in the upcoming draft.

Well, it's a 7th-round pick. He obviously has some tools or the scouts wouldn't have rated him the way they did.

I like it.

We have arguably the best OL and QB coaches in the league. Maybe picking a QB and an O-lineman in the 7th wasn't a bad idea for development possibilities.

Great draft in my book all around one of our better ones.

I didn't really like the QB or DE from Baylor pick, and I wish we would have picked CJ Mosley, but I really can't think of a better draft then this one. We filled a ton of needs and for once didn't make stupid reaches for players.

Good pick. Much better than the DJ pick (he can't tackle).

This guy would have cleared some big holes for me in Pittsburgh.
