View Full Version : Hypothetical: You get sucked into your TV...

Rain Man

I know that Pleasantville did this concept (great movie, by the way), but here goes:

If you were going to get sucked into your TV and had to live the rest of your life inside the fictional world created by a TV show, what show would you pick?

Now consider the same thing for a movie, either at the theater or on TV. What movie world would you inhabit for the rest of your life?

As a third request, which of the above two would be your top choice?

And please remember, if you pick a porn movie you're going to shoot yourself within six months of hearing nothing but bad dialogue. Try to pick a "real" movie.

In terms of TV, I might go live in the world of Bonanza. Those guys really had a pretty good life, other than the occasional gunshot wound.

As for the movies...probably Time Bandits. That'd be cool.

Sure, but I'd probably die satisfied.

I've always wanted to be a Tenenbaum... The Royal Tenenbaums

Also, when Vito was the active Don in The Godfather. Good, family fun then.

Yeah, I'd go with Bonanza. always pretty girls around, lots of action and they owned half of Nevada.

True, but you would get shot at least fifty times a year.

TV show: Gilligan's Island. Not too much responsibility. A shot a Ginger or Mary Ann. Plus I can't think of anything better.

Movie: Ground Hog Day, as the Bill Murray character. I find the prospect of living each day without any consequences beyond that day to be quite attractive. Plus all the free time to pursue whatever interests I wanted.

The movie would definitely be my top choice.

One thing always bothered me about Bonanza though. They used 6 shoters that appeared to use cartridges and they could shoot forever. The show is set just before the Civil War and cartridges weren't available till 1873. You won't see any cartridges in their gunbelts though. Can anybody explain this?

Yeah, there are a few things in that show like that. :) Seriously though, almost every episode, someone gets the "colt treatment." Do the math, it would be your turn to take a bullet at least once a week. You better be wearing a bullet proof vest when the TV vortex sucks you in. :hmmm:

TV Show: Star Trek: Deep Space 9. I always preferred the DS9 setting and characters to any other Trek series. Being on the Enterprise would be far too dangerous. There's all that cool stuff on DS9's promenade to check out, plus they have holosuites, which are just like the holodeck, except you can do NAUGHTY stuff in 'em. :D

Movie: Star Wars. Duh. I'm not sure whether I'd like to be Imperial, Rebel, or independent. Ideally I'd grow up in the outer rim, get drafted into the Imperial starfleet, serve a few years, get Darth Vader's autograph, and then defect to the Rebel Alliance. After we beat the snot out of the Imperials, maybe I'll go independent and work for a Hutt or something. It also might be kind of cool to be a Tusken Raider or a Jawa.

I was goign to say, you may want to brush up on you fighting skills and be holding an AK before it sucks you in as well.

Evil outlaw Cowboys: "What's that thing you're hold'n there mister, it looks liek a fence post."

Skip "You want to find out waht it is dickweed?"

Evil Cowboys "What's ya gonna do, there's three of us city boy."

Skip "Let me jsut show ya!" :bang:

Watched a lot of Bonanza but never got a firm feel for the time period.

Runner-up TV Show: The A-Team. I'd be an innocent bystander each week. I'd love to see all those hundreds of rounds of ammo get fired each week and never hit anything.

Runner-up Movie: Jurassic Parks 1, 2 and 3. I'd be a velociraptor.

There are tons of possibilities here. I based my answers upon on major criteria, am I a lead in the setting or a background cast member?

Background:

Casablanca - To be helping Rick and the Resistance would be an ultimate thrill.

Monty Python's Flying Circus - Who needs to explain this choice?

Lead:

2001: A Space Odyssey - This has to be the single most important individual in the history of reality possible movies. Dave Bowman is the single entity in charge of changing mankind. How cool is that?

Millennium - Chasing down freaks and trying to decide if the supernatural really does control the killers and an ultimate moment would be a rush.

Bonanza was set in the 1860s directly after the Civil War in Nevada while it was still just a territory of the United States.

I Dream Of Jeannie,so I could take Nelson's place and get busy having some wishes granted.

Animal House,a party a day.

I'd have to go with tv though, the thought of having a beautiful servant to grant any wish I had.

I guess it would depend on whether I was a hero or an average joe.

Star Trek would be cool if I was Captain Kirk (saving the galaxy, nailing green bitches), but I sure as hell wouldn't want to crewman redshirt. If I was a regular guy I'd take Star Trek Next Generation - I'd still be able to log some holodeck time.

For movies, as a hero - definitely Star Wars. Jedi powers would rock. Average guy - Starship Troopers (get over it, Russ). I loved the way their society worked, and as a veteran, I'd be a citizen! :thumb:

TV Show: The Jetsons - It would be cool to have a flying car.

Movie: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - Time travel, rock & roll, and being worshiped as a founding father regardless of my mental deficiencies.

I'd rather have the Jetsons between the two.

TV show:

This is tough, because there are obvious drawbacks to all of my favorite shows. (Quantum Leap, MST3K). Being stuck in time, or stuck in space would definately suck. I guess what I would choose would be a cop-out. I'd take Bill O'Reilly's job. I'd get to live in New York, be famous, have a kick ass job, make a ton of money, be a best selling author. It's not fiction, but it would be awesome! Oh, I found the loophole! I'd be a news anchor character in the show Seinfeild... That works, and it's the same thing... Except funnier...

Movie:

Another toughy. Most good movies are only good because they have a great "conflict." Frankly, I don't like that much drama in my real life. I guess I wouldn't mind being Superman. Of course, I wouldn't spend much time fighting crime, and I most definately wouldn't wear a damned suit. I'd probalby just play football and score chicks...

TV show: Kung Fu. Kwai Chang Caine wandering the Old West barefoot, kicking tail and spouting off obscure wisdom. What could be better?

Movie: Indiana Jones. Sure you'd always be in danger of losing your life, but you'd be finding the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail at the same time. And the women? Oh, yeah.

Can the TV show be a mini series? If so I'd be in James Clavell's "Shogun". Otherwise, I might like Maverick or Battlestar Galactica (the old one).

For movies it would have to be Excalibur. I couldn't pass on a achance to be a Knight of the Round Table. Second choice would be LoTR.

I forgot about the damn parallel universe thingy.....and the whole space / time continuem deal.

I'd love to be filthy rich and never have to work

TV Shows:

Cheers The idea of being able to drink in a bar all the time, not have a job, and not have to pay a bill- priceless.

Gilligan's Island The idea of being stranded on a deserted island with the Ginger and Mary Ann. Need I say more?

Movies:

Interesting: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- my life would be one creepy event after another.

Dazed and Confused or Fast Times at Ridgemont High: Beer, babes, good music, and weed. Eh, let the good times roll, baby!
