Two MU athletes are facing charges

The Kansas City Star

A former Missouri basketball player and a Missouri baseball player were arrested in separate incidents in the last week.

Jeffrey Ferguson, who is no longer a part of the basketball program but still on scholarship until the end of the semester, was jailed over the weekend on two counts of misdemeanor assault involving a weapon.

Initially, Ferguson appeared to be facing a Class D felony, but an investigation over the weekend determined that Ferguson brandished a BB gun and not a real firearm. That was according to several sources familiar with the incident, including MU basketball coach Quin Snyder. That still led to the filing of a complaint by two persons who witnessed the incident.

Baseball player Michael Cole was dismissed from the team last week after he was charged with twice stabbing a Columbia man in an incident involving alcohol.

MU officials confirmed to The Star on Monday that Cole had forfeited scholarship aid and would almost certainly not return to the team after he allegedly crashed a party, took two bottles of alcohol and some beer, and then allegedly stabbed one of the people who tried to recover the alcohol from Cole's residence.
