Report: Zarqawi 'Seriously Wounded'
Sunday, May 15, 2005
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s most wanted terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (search ), has been seriously wounded, according to a doctor who claims to have treated him last week.
The doctor told an Iraqi reporter in the western city of Ramadi that Zarqawi was bleeding heavily when he was brought into hospital on Wednesday. After treating his wounds the doctor tried to persuade him to remain, but the Jordanian-born terrorist’s minders drove him away.
The claim was supported yesterday by a senior commander in the Iraqi resistance who had been to Ramadi to investigate the report. The doctor, who refused to specify the nature of the wounds and asked not to be identified, was detained by the Americans on Friday for questioning, residents said.
Zarqawi, described as Usama Bin Laden’s “emir” in Iraq, is the Americans’ top target. He has been blamed for countless suicide bombings and for the execution of western hostages, including Ken Bigley, the Liverpool engineer. There is a £13m bounty on his head.
Last week US forces launched an offensive near al-Qaim, more than 100 miles northwest of the city, and claimed to have killed scores of insurgents.
According to the doctor, Zarqawi was escorted into Ramadi general hospital by smartly dressed men. “He was bleeding heavily and his escorts were well dressed with a look about them that was different from the casualties and family members we had been receiving from the al-Qaim offensive,” he was quoted as saying.
“I treated his injury and asked that he remain in hospital for further observations and told him that we would have to register him and take down his name and details. But he became very nervous and agitated. He refused and told me he would not be staying.
“The three men with him asked me politely that he be allowed to leave hospital immediately and that I supply them with a prescription and a list of medication that he may need.”
The doctor, who recognized Zarqawi from his photograph on television, followed them to their vehicle to try to convince them that the patient should remain in hospital. At that point, he said, he saw machineguns. They threatened to kill him if he told anyone what he had seen.
They then produced a wad of US dollars to secure his silence. The doctor said that he had refused to take the cash.

Somebody should remind the terrorists that it's inevitable heaven runs out of virgins. To avoid sloppy seconds it's best they take their dirt nap sooner rather then later.

Yeah, really. I take stuff like this with a grain of salt. But if it's true, good. If we have to still be over there getting our boys and girls killed, at least we kill some of the bad guys punk asses. It's about time we get this guy. (Instead of, you know, a bunch of civilians)

well, it could be better news. The Dr. could have also stated that he used a scalpel that had just been used to remove a staff infection on another patient and was still contaminated :D

You're a f**king idiot. I told you that in the neg rep I left you too. If you actually believe the brave men and women in our military are targeting women and children then get yourself a one-way plane ticket to Iraq, grab a gun, and start protecting them you stupid pu**y.

Saying that the military is killing civilians is not the same as saying that the military is targeting them. More precisely, killing does not imply targeting. Our own military understands this. Consider the following recent press release from the American Forces Information Service (Department of Defense):
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Apr2005/20050430_817.html
Three Afghan Civilians Killed in Attack on Insurgents
American Forces Press Service
BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan, April 30, 2005 – An air strike April 29 against an insurgent camp in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, resulted in the deaths of four anti-coalition militants and three civilians, coalition officials announced today.
The deaths occurred during a series of attacks over two days against insurgents in the same area.
The attack killed one Afghan woman, one Afghan man and a child. Two other children were also wounded in the attack, officials said. The children were evacuated to Kandahar Airfield for treatment.
The attack occurred in the same area in which coalition forces recently saved the lives of more than 200 Afghans from raging floodwaters, according to a Combined Forces Command Afghanistan news release. Additionally, in recent days, more than 800 people in this area have received medical treatment through coalition medical-assistance operations, and seven different civil affairs missions are under way in the area.
A medical team has moved to the area to ensure any medical attention needed is available to the villagers following recent operations there.
"This incident is not indicative of coalition efforts," an official said in the release. "Every coalition mission is carefully planned, and all possible efforts are taken to prevent non-combatant injuries and deaths. In some cases, operations are dramatically altered to prevent any risk to injuring non-combatants."

Hilarious. Apparantly, context, and moreover, reading comprehension are concepts lost on you. I never said that our troops are targeting innocents. But plenty of civilians are dying, some by us, some by insurgents. To condense my earlier post into something you might grasp:
I'm not sure if I beleive this or not. If true, great. It's about time we kill the scumbags so we don't have to waste time, troops, and energy chasing them. If we finally get this guy, maybe some of the bloodshed could stop.
Calm down. Man alive, a moderate post is filed directly to the "LWNJ" column by the conservative-views-only filter on you people.

Anybody who is siding up with Duhnese is going to have to prove they're something other than an America-hating psycho. Your response and her comments are the context I was working with. Your post also points to "we" getting him, then tags on the civilian killing with no clarification as to who, therefore leading the reader to believe you are still speaking of "we", not the terrorists. Add to that the flippant nature of the wording.
It's about time we get this guy. (Instead of, you know, a bunch of civilians)
So, you think it's about time we get this guy INSTEAD of a bunch of civilians. Put another way, we were out killing a bunch of civilians, but we finally got this guy intead.
If you can't see how that could be construed in a way other than you're claiming it was meant then you're far denser than you claim I am. However, if that wasn't what you meant then great.

beyond our crappy media. operation matador has been killing lots of
bad guys on the syrian border, and that is probably the spot that

Perhaps. Then again, I don't really care one way or the other. Her answer would be somewhat enlightening, however. Surely even she would celebrate this thing's death.

Al-Zarqawi purportedly says wounds ‘minor’
Audiotape surfaces on Web site, claims he’s in Iraq
A voice purporting to be that of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of al-Qaida in Iraq, surfaced on a Web site Monday, denying reports he was seriously injured and saying that he suffered only “minor” wounds.
“I think news has reached your ears through the media that I was seriously wounded," the voice says in what's described as a report to Osama bin Laden. "I would like to assure you and assure Muslims that these are baseless rumors and that my wounds are minor.
“I am now with the help of God enjoying good health among my brothers and my people in Iraq,” the voice added. The authenticity of the voice could not be immediately verified.
Last week, reports indicated that al-Zarqawi had suffered a gunshot wound to his lung and had fled to a neighboring country for medical treatment.
'Waiting for your directions'
Zarqawi’s group is one of the leaders of a bloody insurgency against U.S. forces and the Iraqi government.
“Our beloved prince, the enemy is proceeding as envisioned and we are close to tightening the noose around his neck and if the plan goes ahead as prepared, its results will please all Muslims and harm every infidel and hypocrite,” the tape said.
“I believe the plan we prepared has either reached you or is on its way to you,” the speaker said without elaborating. “The enemy today is living out his worst days in Iraq.”
“We are waiting for your directions and orders,” the voice added.
Claims battle victory
The voice also claimed that al-Qaida in Iraq had won this month's bloody battle against U.S. troops at the town of Qaim near the Syrian border.
"Al-Qaim was the battlefield where the youth of Mohammed have proved their valiance after 10 days of fighting. It was one of the greatest battles of Islam," the speaker said.
The U.S. military said it killed 125 militants during its weeklong offensive against al-Zarqawi's fighters. Nine U.S. Marines were killed and 40 injured during the operation, one of the largest American campaigns since militants were driven from Fallujah six months ago. The number of civilian casualties was not immediately known.
