View Full Version : It's The Star Wars anti-hype that I'm sick of

Every time.

Man saying you don't like Star Wars and that Lucas is an idiot is apparently the coolest shit to do when these movies come out.

If nobody had ever heard of Star Wars before these sequels were made, then most people would enjoy them, some people would hate them and some would think they were awesome. Then it would be just like every other movie, and that would be better I think.

If you ask me, the wisest crowd are the ones who enjoy it for what it is and move on.

Pretty much.

I don't go in to "Survivor" threads and say "This is the ****ing stupidest concept in the history of television, and only middle aged losers who can't tell this shit is fake watch it". I just ignore them, and move on.

Pretty much everything on network TV is pretty god damned gay. At the top of my list is "Friends". That has to be the worst show to ever make it past a few seasons. Any of the "competition" based reality shows are pretty weak too. I can't stand listening to the actors (yes, they are actors) talk about their strengths and weaknesses, and how they think they can win the competition. Its so labored and retarded.

I like the people that refuse to watch any of them. It really makes a lot sense to dismiss something that has appealled to such a massive protion of the population. Clearly it has nothing to offer.

I refuse to look at the Mona Lisa because of all the stiff shirts that like that kind of art.

I refuse to listen to the Beatles, because of all the dorky old people that like them.

I don't care about that. There is a reason people choose not to watch them, and usually at the top of the list its "I don't like Sci-Fi". Don't like it? No big deal. Its the same reason I chose not to watch movies like "Meet the Parents/Fockers". I don't find them funny at all, even if 97% of the American population say otherwise.

Funny how that works. On the other hand Family Guy is funny as hell.
And Meet the Fockers wasn't that bad.

I just think of all the great movies I've seen, that I didn't think would appeal to me, but watched anyway just to see what all the hype was about. Hype doesn't guarantee you'll enjoy it, but usually these things are that popular for a reason. Just seems closed minded to never give it a chance.

There are those of us that have given it a cahnce though and didn't care for it.For instance,I've seen the first Star Wars and the first two LOTR and for my tastes personally,I have no intentions of watching the others.

Its funny that the backlash irritates the StarDorks, who are irritating the non-stardorks to the point of them saying their irritated.

Maybe, just maybe if stardorks just went to the movie, and 35 year olds who lived in their mothers basement were saber jousting in every direction, tehre wouldn't be a reaction.

It doesn't bother me that people like the genre....I liked the first 3 when I was younger........but Its almost to the point of being like having Dense making an yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak bugle in the car with no radio.

I've seen the first 3 a couple of 3 times a piece over the years.....I enjoyed them.

The one with the Kid on the fly Bike.....sucked. I knew then(via HBO) that I was done with Stardorks.

I've never seen any of the LoTR series....I did read the Hobbit, and always figured I'd try it....but didn't, probably mostly because I was tired of hearing about it, before it came out.

Well the truth is something pretty obvious, and it's fun to point out because it instantly invalidates the snobbishness of those of you who hate things just to be cool.

All forms of entertainment require the spectator to be a willing participant.

This is important because it explains the reason people like things despite there being a ton of evidence that said thing is actually pretty good. Just like some people like country and hate rap, and it has little to do with the actual quality of the music in either case. It's an image thing. It's about preconcieved notions we have about the things we "like". Someone doesn't like pop-culture because he isn't "mindless pop-culture sheep" like everyone else. Or someone doesn't like country because they aren't an ignorant redneck, or doesn't like rap because they aren't an ignorant thug who wears baggy clothes.

Skip doesn't like Star Wars because only juvenile little annoying little nerdy bastard like that bullshit.

That's all most of this posturing is, and that's why I hate anti-hype. It's far far more bullshit than someone who just comes out and says they enjoy something, or just think it's okay. But regardless, the Star Wars movies are not bad enough that you can genuinely hate them unless you're full of shit in my opinion.

I have a friend, who has 2 little boys.....almost 3 and almost 5.

Every time I see them, they bust into some kind of Karate moves, strike a pose of some type and say "I'm a Power Ranger".

I usually laugh, because they're 4.

Its not as funny when 35 year olds make their robot beeping noises or glggglllllllllglglllllllllllll wookie howel every time I see them.

I'm sure that saul and gochiefs bust into the Robot dance and talk like a mechanical Mrs Doubtfire every day. thats probably why their coworkers bought those new MP3 players they wear all the time.

I can guarantee you that most of them don't. Most of them just wear that goofy shit because they think they are "a little but cun-try..". Its ridiculous looking, as are stormtrooper outfits. I wouldn't be caught dead or alive in either of em.

Tell you what, go to the mall this weekend and ask the resident hicks in their goofy clown shoes and dinner-plate sized beltbuckles if they've ever "roped a cow" for something other than sexual pleasures, and see what kinda response you get. This is after of course they are done shopping at Old Navy, and before they get in their new shiny Ford Expedition.

Its looks to me like that guy was probably working on some Touristy train thing for the old west. If you go to the O.K. Corral show, you're probably expecting to see someone with a lid on. Get back to me when that guy is wearing that at Pricechopper......or to say the Next kevin Costner movie with Indians in it.

If I go to Disneyland, I'd better see a midget in a Mickey Mouse Outfit.

Every time Stardorks releases another verse, anywhere close to a theater looks like a Circus run by Gregorian Monks is in town.

My favorite part, is when I make fun of some Stardork fan, and they hold their hand up like they're giving me "the claw" or are "pinching my head" and are trying so hard, they blow a blood vessel in their eye.

Theres a chance that the guy in the Stetson actually believes it to be every day attire, might work on a ranch(thats as much his culture as your FUBU or in your case Jordash Jeans) or might be a Rodeo Cowboy, who just might open your head like a chew can.

Every city has the "county fair Cowboys". I probably see things differently as I grew up around cattlemen, ranchers, farmers and rodeo cowboys. You'll probably find that Johnson County doesn't exactly have the same core group of Lid-wearers as say, the Feedlots out west.

I'll probably be working cows and calves this weekend. You definitely get kicked alot sorting pen and ally when pushing calves. Thats still easier than holding tails for the Castration or branding.

I have a straw hat, but don't wear it much........alot less now than when I was doing the rodeo phase.

I don't even really give a shit about Star Wars, that was kind of the point.

Anyway, there are a lot of people around here who dress like cowboys, some are cowboys and some aren't. In neither case do they have to dress like that though, it's just preference. A lot of people see it as stupid, those people also hate country music. It's the same preconceived notions, and it's pointless. People would be better off if they were a bit more rational.

do they get a "fee saul-hall pass" if they've been or are in the military?

How about if say, I just climbed out of a tree from 4hrs of bow hunting and came to town for a sammich, and get ready to go back out? Does that offend your delicate balance of socially acceptable comfort?

I think that people dressing like starwars is one thing, but the REAL tools are these goatfornicaters that walk around in these queerass purple KSU shirts. Might was well have the Telle-Tubby Horn on top of the head.

It should be enough to say that it's going to be difficult to make a coherent argument that concerns Star Wars in any manner when your name is jarjar. Yeah I put a little bit of thought into my posts so it was annoying to have it invalidated like that.

Instead I'll get gang banged by people who identify with toughness by how many newbs they "smack down" on messageboards. If I werent' such a nancy boy I'd go along and play swords with you two lovers, because why does discussion matter when we can just screw with each other?

I can respect avoiding it if it's not your thing. I certainly avoid plenty of chick flicks, regardless of popularity.

Overall, I have pretty eclectic tastes when it comes to everything, so I figure most things are worth a chance. Star Wars is widely regarded as one of the great movies of the last few decades, even by those who aren't wearing storm trooper suits over their yoda under-roos. It's just one of those movies that I feel everyone should see once. After that, if it doesn't float your boat, the rest certainly won't do anything for you.
