I love my mom in law’s new stove!!!

See me and the better half live with her mom in the family homestead, and for the last month I’ve been doing some MAJOR interior renovations for the upcoming flood of family back to Bell Island this summer, during “Come Home year”.
(***Back in 1964 when the Iron mines closed, over half the bell Islanders left to go find work. This summer is a schedule of events inviting anyone who lived here and moved away to “come home”)

One of the many I’ve done so far was completely gut her kitchen, and build custom cabinets with a new counter top, and you guessed it, a new stove. (the old one I found out last week is older than me, has cooked a thousand turkey dinners, and still works great if not completely tempermental..)

Since she’s getting everything through her “Home Hardware card” and we live on a very small Island, to say choice of selection is slim at best. (Unless I can fit in the car on my way home, or get a pickup to purchase supplies from the main land.) :banghead:

Anyway, mom told me she needed 30 inches for a new stove.
Well actually it was more like:
“Now be after listen’n to me son, hi need’s tirty hinches fer me new stove”
As the newfie dialect is rather like that of a drunken Irishman on a bender.

Anyway, she went up to the local hardware store and had them send this one home

I’m an old school cook, I’m not much into timers or electronics, when it looks done it is. :cuss:
Yesterday I tried the new stove for the first time, (I always make weekend breakfast,) and did a masterful job on Swiss style French toast with home fries and back bacon. ROFL

This morning I tried omelets., home fries, and thick bacon.
What a difference. The old stove would burn shit in a hart beat.
This morning, I just did my normal routine, smoked a pinner , turned on some Gun’s N Rose’s, and let er’ rip! :p

The better half described her breaky as “OMG, this is cream yer jeans good!”

Everything came out perfect. And talk about enjoying making it!
I just did my thing, and the stove did it’s!

For a stove under $500 US, I’m blown away with it. Even heat, fast warm up of the oven, even cooking surface.
I’d give it ¾. Only due to the fact it does have “self clean” but no convection capabilities, I’d say this is probably the best damn stove (other than any propane cook top) I’ve ever cooked on. Bare necessities of cooking to let you make your cake and eat it too! :thumb:

Nice.

I love cooking with gas. As a kid we always had an electric stove and it seemed minor then, but the heat up and cool down times are a real issue to me now.

We have a widened Tappan that hosts 4 burners and a griddle with two burners that separate them. Of course, I don't have the cool circulation unit. Very nice.
