A buddy of mine and I are planning to fly to KC for the Eagle game on 10/2. I have never stayed in KC before...flew in and drove by the Complex once. I understand the Country Club Plaza area is a good place to stay. We will be coming in Friday and leaving Monday so we will be doing a lot more than the game. I have a rate of $174 at the Embassy Suites.

Anyone know of a good place to stay ( nice, bar in or right next to, close to action )? Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

Go Chiefs.

That will do alright. You might also check the rates on the Sheraton.
The Plaza has plenty to keep you busy and some bars with great eye candy.

Ah, yes, the "Arrowhead Experience". Nothing like it.

Thanks. I just checked the Sheridan and they only have single beds left with a pull out couch. Actually a little better price, but the sofa bed part sucks. So Embassy Suites would work?

Yes, I hope to do the entire " Experience "! Chiefs shops, barbecue, night life and Arrowhead from opening to closing on game day!!!

Yeah..that should be fine. Thought the price would be better. The soda bed part does suck. There's also a Holiday Inn in Westort you might want to check out. It's less than five minutes from the Plaza and should be a bit less expensive.

Would the Embassy be pretty much walking distance to a lot? We will have a car, but not driving in the evenings :) If it pretty much walking distance it would be worth it to save money on cab fare.

Westport to the Plaza should be less than five bucks for a cab. You can't go wrong with the Embassy though either.

Brando is right. There really isn't anywhere near the stadium with good nightlife to be had. The Plaza butts right up to the party district - Westport, and it sounds like you got a pretty decent rate for the Embassy for a weekend.

Cab fare wouldn't be TOO terrible from downtown to the stadium, but check with the hotel. They may provide a free shuttle out there, or can give you a location where you can catch a bus to the game.

My wife and I always go to KC for at least one game per year. We have ALWAYS done the price line thing and picked a four star hotel in the downtown area (or just south of downtown) and have ALWAYS gotten the Westin Crown Center for $50/night. It's a quality hotel and to boot; it's were the visiting team stays. The wife and I were all decked out in our Chiefs gear Sunday before the game and rode down on the elevator with Pat Bowlin (sp) ~ the owner of the Donks! Priceline will try to talk you out of getting a hotel for that price, but click the "go ahead and try anyway" option. It has always worked for us. I think the room retails for at least $160 or so.

The Westin at 50 bucks a night on a weekend is a damned steal!

Or,he could just ask for a ride from a fellow planeteer,I'm betting there's more than a few of us that would oblige.

At the Plaza the Embassy Suite good hotel about 4 blocks from The main road on the Plaza. Rooms are ok a little older compaired to most Embassy Suites. But they do or did have a guest reception with drinks and they have a great made to order breakfasts.

The Mariott is very nice just father out of the way 8 -10 blocks.

Somewhere else you may try is the Hampton Inn and Suites. Very close to the Plaza and rates are pretty reasonable. Contental breakfast is included.

Also the KC Chiefs Shuttle (http://www.kcata.org/chiefs.html) will take you round trip from the plaza to the game and back. Plaza Shuttle Pick up map (http://www.kcata.org/chiefsroutes.html#Country%20Club%20Plaza)

The Mariott on Main is just two blocks from the Plazza.

For that kind of money, you can stay here. (http://www.raphaelkc.com/index.html)
It's the only hotel in Missouri that made Conde Nast's Gold List.

Not near the Plaza.. but if you don't mind staying in the garment district (the closest bar scene would probably be at the River Market) then the BEST place to stay in KC is the Savoy http://www.bbonline.com/mo/hotelsavoy/index.html

Cheap as hell, historic building and included in the price is a full gourmet breakfast from one of the best places to eat in town (the Savoy Grill)

If you go the Plaza route.. I would definitely recommend the Raphael (Rukdafaidas beat me to it)

Try to avoid a "chain" hotel unless you just want to go for the cheapest price... if that is the case then go with Priceline... if you know how to "work" the system you can get hotels at close to 50% normal rates

No one has mentioned "The Quarterage"?

It's right on the edge of Wesport's bar district (about a block closer than the Holiday Inn Express). It's pretty reasonable, rarely busy, and has free happy hour every night. It's also a short cab ride from the plaza.

Find it here: http://www.quarteragehotel.com/
