Fisk Foul Pole: Cool or Stupid

So the Red Sox have officially named the left field foul pole the "Fisk Foul Pole". Obviously, anyone with any sense of baseball history knows why.

I'm torn between thinking that's pretty cool, and thinking that it's just stupid to officially name a foul pole after someone. I know the Pesky Pole in right, but that's just an unofficial nickname that it got tagged with. It's also something of an urban legend, since Johnny Pesky didn't wrap THAT many HRs around the thing.

I thinks its dumb, for the simple reason that they felt they needed to do something because the Reds are coming back to Boston for the first time since it happened. Have Carlton throw out the first pitch or something, I am never going to call it "Pudge's Pole"

It's baseball, so by definition it's stupid.

Setting that aside, I think it's not a bad idea in and of itself, but officially sanctioned nicknames rarely take root. It may end up in the media guide or something, but unless it's catchy and speaks to the masses, it's going to just be a bit of trivia.
