I see your point... Scanlon's 7-year, $49 million contract he'll be asking for is gonna push us over the top.

That's exactly what I was thinking if Roy's boy has a big year.

Because of the new TV contracts, not to mention all the other increasing revenues.... the salary cap is expected to make a pretty substantial leap next year.... supposedly. All these offseason moves we made were supposedly done with this in mind.

Is it next year that could end up being uncapped, or the year after?

I think '07 is the uncapped year, but they'll never let that happen.

I don't pay as much attention to contract stuff as I used to, but I don't think we're looking at cap hell at any point. We've been doing the off-year/on-year free agency moves (generally), and spaced all the contracts out. Plus, deals get reworked every year anyway. I think we've done a better job at cap management since the 2001 salary dump.

The year after I do believe... if they don't get a bargaining agreement in place, in which case there will be no cap hell because there will be no cap. :)

2007 will be the first uncapped year if the owners don't figure out how to share their millions nicely. This will also make the June 1 date meaningless next year since you can't spread the cap hit across 2 seasons when one of those years has no collective bargaining agreement in place.

Of course if this is not taken care of by June 1 2006, the NFL as we know it will disappear.

$1.5 million this year, $2.0 million next? The time to cut him is now.

$1.5 million this year, $2.0 million next? The time to cut him is now.I'm assuming you're referring to salary. Salary isn't guaranteed. He didn't receive a large signing bonus as I recall, which is why I say there's no reason for a June 1 cut; not much prorated bonus on the books.
