Anybody play these?

Back when the very first Rainbow 6 came out on PC I picked it up, played through it and the expansion both, as well as Rogue Spear. Great games, love the realism and strategy elements.

Then, just a little while back I picked up Ghost Recon (first one) for xbox (one of the $20 games) and got into the series again. The game is sweet, I like the counterterrorism type missions in the Rainbow games, but these more outdoor military style ones in Ghost I can get into as well.

Anybody else play them? What are they like for xbox live? Any comments on the other Clancy titles for xbox? Which ones should I pick up?

Ghost Recon is best when played on Live. I have RS3 sitting around, but after a few playing through a few missions, I got bored :( .

That it is, behind only "Red Storm Rising", IMO.

I first started with Rogue Spear, in '99, and played for a long time via the wonderful IP community on the official RSE forums (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showpost.php?p=2523005&postcount=4)...

I never got all that into Ghost Recon, though, probably because I wasn't ever able to hook back up with my old buddies and had to resort to the Zone.

I dunno. I guess I was in it as much for the community aspect as much as the fun game. Actually, I think I'd probably reinstall RS and Urban Ops if you a number of you foos were willing to play. Cap some CP asses in Mexico City... sounds fun to me.

I greatly prefer games with stategy elements to pure shooters. There is only so much you can get out of running around shooting people indiscriminately.

If you like those types of games you should check out the Hitman series. I don't think I've ever played a game that allowed you more latitude on what to do and how to get it done.

I just started playing the Battlefield 2 demo. Don't know if i'll buy it yet (came out today). I'll let EA work out all the bugs first.

Heh, I've been playing that (demo) since its release date.... frigging awesome.

If I'm not piloting a helo or jet, I especially enjoy playing the role of battlefield commander. It's a great concept: introduce central c&c to a FPS... effectively blending RTS into the game. If you can master commander, ie get good at sending squads where needed, using UAVs, radar scans, supply drops, and artillery strikes, you can decimate the opposition. Especially if they're running around w/o squads, w/o a commander, like typical pubber idiots :D

I like sitting in the anti-aircraft missle things and shooting down jets/helis. Fun stuff.

When I get bored I kill my teammates :P

Yeah, those things tear helos up! I have my head on a swivel when I'm piloting... always on the lookout for "fast movers" and manned SAM sites.

Having flares to disrupt the SAMs is great! Flying low & fast helps to keep jets at bay, but it can be scary - especially near the construction site cap point. That crane has a knack for getting in the way ;)

I've played mil flight-sim games since the early 90s, so I'm an absolute terror in the jets. Heh, half the time it looks to me like my counterparts are using the mouse/keyboard.... their lack of maneuverability in comparison to my $100 flight stick + throttle rig is obvious. :D What I really love is when one gets on my six and tries to shoot me down... I'll run S-curve maneuvers on 'em till they splash (ie "hard landing") "Player Dumbass (Mig29) is no more" hehe

I bought Rainbow Six years ago, but could never really get into it.

I had a hard time getting the hang of the squad based commands. Maybe I missed a tutorial section or something, but I just couldn't seem to figure it out.

Maybe I'll give it another shot. I didn't give it much of one the first time.

That's probably because you blow at those games. Clans are the reason MP FPS are good. Sure it's fun going pubbing and owning stupid nubs once in a while, but the best way is to have an organized clan and play in matches (and if you have enough time in your life, maybe even in leagues).

There in lies the problem. Clans make you devote too much time to the game.

Yes, they can. Just like any other hobby.

I loved playing the first BF1942 online. The Vietnam one wasn't as good.. the weapons were too deadly and the vehicles weren't as cool or useful. Frequently I would just sight someone up and all of the sudden you're dead.

The clans are alright, at least they operate servers where they kick TKers or grenade spammers, spawn cheesers, etc.

Plus, playing in matches means that there is team work and strategy involved, which instantly makes the game 17x better.

A lot of them were dicks but they'd be nice to you if you were helping out instead of flying planes around in circles or blowing up stuff just for fun.

I liked picking the engineer and just following their armor around giving repairs. You'd be amazed how many noobs they could blow through with a wrench following them.

maybe for two years ago.. you can buy a athlon 64 computer with 512ddr2 and a pcie vid card for 650 not counting rebates... Upgrade the memory and get a new vid cardfor 250-300 dollars... IF you have not gotten a new computer within the last 4-5 years you are due for a new one to be a casual gamer...

FYI I'm playing BF2 @ 1280x960, all graphics on High, 2x anti-aliasing. Runs smooth... I'd estimate 50+ fps

AMD XP 3200+
1 GB 3200 DDR RAM
Asus mobo w/ integrated nVidia audio
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) - THIS is the important piece in gaming. Note that video RAM can be misleading - a smaller amount of faster RAM will perform better than a card with a ton of slower RAM. In other words, check the video RAM speed before grabbing a 9600 w/ 256MB RAM over a 9800 w/ half that amount. The 9800 RAM is way faster - as is the GPU; making it twice the card for a little more $.

I'm playing BF2 at 1280X1024 with everything on max.

AMD 3500+ Winchester @ 2.5
MSI Neo2 Platinum
eVGA 6800GT agp
G.Skill 3200 512mbX2
2X74gb Raptors in RAID 0
and the all important-
Antec Neo Power 480w psu

Game runs like buttah and looks amazing.
