Carl has vowed to commit seppuku if DJ is not signed by training camp.

Considering Carls "Hardball" history, chances are slim he makes it to camp on time.

I believe his agent is Vann McElroy, and I'd be surprised if he isn't one of the first players signed. Just a gut feeling.

Derrick Johnson's agent is Vann Mcelroy. I believe he was a DB for the Raiders and Seattle several years ago.

At least it's not the Postons or Rosenhaus.

I will be very surprised if DJ isn't in camp on time. The kid wants to go to work and seems sincere in his desire to be in training camp on day one.

I think DJ realizes that if he gets to River Falls on time that a starting spot is his for the taking.

Yeah, I can't believe Larry Johnson wasn't in camp on time.

One would hope this is the case. Sadly, their agents often get in their ear and make them believe that they are worth much more if they hold out. NFL needs a rookie salary structure like the NBA. If the rookie salaries were pre-determined by draft pick #, all rooks would be in camp on time every year.

Two things could stand in his way...

1) the complication that 2007 is a non-cap year
2) if he feels that he was drafted "lower than he expected"

But he seems like a stand-up guy who just wants to play to the best of his ability. I'm hopeful.

They have a much better history with late 1st round/early 2nd round picks being signed on time as opposed to lower round 1st round picks.

I think recent history shows that the "Tough SOB" negotiator has mellowed quite a bit. I think Crybaby Vermeil has gotten to him.

When picks 1 through 14 are signed then DJ will be signed.

I've heard Johnson's agent won't even put an offer from his party on the table until another LB is signed, so they can guage what DJ's worth is in the grand scheme of things

Supposedly, the Chiefs have already approached DJ's agent with an offer that was based on last year's #15 pick. They turned it down, and said they preferred to wait and see how this year's slotting sets up.
