A mint julep is a lovely little drink. You muddle a couple of sugar cubes and 8-12 mint leaves in a little soda water in a collins glass. Fill with crushed ice and fill with bourbon (a good quality bourbon since you are drinking it almost straight). Some add a splash of soda on the top, but they are not considered to be "purists".

I saw a shot in one of the bar guides at work today that I decided I was going to try when I got home to see if it was worth knowing or not. It's called A Monkey's Lunchbox. You layer Kahlua, Banana Schnapps and Bailey's. I just had about 4 or 5 of them trying to get it to layer the way they showed it in the book, with the banana in the middle. It kept sinking to the bottom, which it actually should being the heaviest of the three. I don't know how they managed to get it in the middle, but it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

It'll be a decent chick shot to suggest when the girls don't know what they want. I'll have something to offer them that they are likely unfamiliar with (at least in these parts). And that just makes me look cool and knowledgeable as a bartender.

Only if I'm lucky....

My bartending mentor taught a neat little shot/joke to give to the customer who wants you to surprise them. First a quick liquor lesson: Crown is often times refered to in drink names as "pussy", because it is that good.

Now this shot is equal parts Gran Mariner, peach scnapps, and Crown. Serve the shot and afterwords when asked what it is you give tell the name - Grandma's Peach Pussy.

First of all, what Seattle knows is coffee, not sweet tea.

Secondly, being in the food service industry in the south I have a question for you sweet tea drinkers: why in the hell when you go into an eating establishment and ask for sweet tea and are informed that they only have regular iced tea do you then proceed to order a Dr. Pepper or whatever (most commonly Dr. Pepper in my experience)? We have f#cking sugar on the table. Why not get a regular tea and sweeten it like has been done for, well, forever?

Freaks.

Freaks.

ROFL Good question.

I've heard of Crown and Peach Scnapps as a Southern Peach, I think. Those are good. Not that I know what pussy tastes like, but I love Crown.

I'll have to look into that, Crown is a Candian whisky; why the name of the drink would be a southern peach seems a bit off to me.

SoCo and peach or bourbon and peach I could see. I dunno'.

It's not the same. If the sugar isn't added while the tea is still hot it doesn't blend in well enough and just sinks to the bottom. Some people can drink sweet and low in their tea and be fine. Not me. If it isn't already sweet I will order something else every time.

Bobs47 is one of my favorite lagers and I consider myself somewhat of a beer snob. We are lucky to have such a fine microbrewery in our town. I still appreciate a Blvd. Pale Ale once in a while (even one in my fridge right now!)

Have you tried Blvd. Lunar? I have mixed feelings about it. It's smooth enough, but it is a confusing beer to me. I want to like it or hate it, but it's just so middle of the road that I can't figure out if I like it or not.

Corsendork Pale Ale...never tried it before....outstanding....(second?) fermented in the bottle, corked, from Belgium....a beautiful gold-yellow color, never seen a beer I wanted to just stare at...makes even the good domestic pale ales I've tried taste like water, though I guess they use a different method so the comparison really isn't fair....jesus they do beer right across the ocean...7.5% alcohol

http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/995.jpg

here's a description from someone who knows about beer stuff (I don't):

" Phoenix reports the Corsendonk ales are bottled with their natural yeast, which provides a second fermentation in the bottle. After bottling, the beers are warm-conditioned for two weeks and then cool conditioned for three months. According to Phoenix, this allows Corsendonk ales to mature in the bottle [double dagger] the pale for two years and the dark for up to five.

Beer critic Michael Jackson describes Corsendonk Monk's Pale Ale as "a deceptively potent ale in the golden |triple' strength style of Belgium's Trappist monks." As Jackson records in his book, The World Guide to Beer, the Belgian tradition of brewing strong ale extends back through the middle ages. According to Jackson, the tradition of brewing these strong beers may derive from the desire for a full-bodied beer to serve as "liquid bread" during Lent.

In Jackson's review of the beer, he said that Monk's Pale "has a very clean palate, beginning with a dry, lightly citric fruitiness, and finishing with a distinctive and delicate, perfumy hop character. Very light and fluffy in texture, giving little hint of its great strength. This beer has living yeast in the bottle, and will evolve with age, becoming softer and cleaner."

The fiance and I are drinking some Bud Light...not exactly my favorite drink but we're in Oklahoma and the liquore store closes at 9 and I don't think they are open on Sundays.

Edit: she said she is drinking vodka.

Lol, the fiance is passed out right now, fell asleep about 20 minutes ago. Now it's my time to enjoy the planet. I don't get to do that very often anymore.

you guys can run harder than I can these days. I drank a pint of captain and coke on friday. woke up felt like i had been through a washing machine but it was my highschools alumni. Drank miller light all day. Went out ran up 30 dollars on rum and cokes and some jager shots. Then sunday. I was huuuuurrrting.
Jimmy buffet once said "I can't run at this pace for very long" That was the story of that sunday

Guess I'm late to this party....North Coast Brewing Company (http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/beers.htm)

I'm drinking their "PranQster" which is a "Belgian Style Golden Ale"..7.6% alcohol.

Outstanding beer. Flavorful, rich, but easy to drink. I love it when I find a new beer that kicks ass.

The stout on their site sounds incredible too, that will be my next purchase.

mmmm.....
