Drinking a Killian's that my FIL left at my place. The beer snob in me thinks this is blasphemous, but it's not bad for a domestic.

P.S. There is WAY too much serious football talk going on around here for a Sunday night before a holiday.

'Taste Of Florida' I ran across a while back and it's quite tasty.

Drink of choice tonight? A coke or a glass of water.

I use and highly recommend Zing Zang bloody mary mix, lots of flavor. I never see it at the grocery store, only in liquor stores around here.

FYI, I see that Boulevard will be releasing their Amber in sixpacks 'about midmonth'. It's been part of their 12 pack mixer since midsummer, but they've finally got production up to where they can sell it by itself. If you like Fat Tire and other Ambers, give this one a try.

I just got on this, Widmer Drifter Ale.....tasty!

http://www.thebrewsite.com/images/beers/drifter-pale-ale.jpg

That looks fucking outstanding!

Thank God for Boulevard. I miss Alaskan Amber already, and I still have a sixer of it tucked away for a rainy day down here. Hopefully Bearcat or Slayer will be able to smuggle another 12 pack of it on the plane on their way back from Seattle tomorrow.

In any case, Boulevard has bridged the gap for me. Just fucking delicious beer. Their sampler packs are a particular favorite of mine, as it's the first I've seen of a mixed 12 pack that wasn't straight up build your own.

So my first 12 pack, I loved everything in it except the Zon. The Bully Porter was an exceptional surprise as I've never found a Porter that I was fond of. Today I went out and picked up another one that was priced particularly well and figured it was a good deal even with 2 shitty bottles of Zon in there.

Well, after drinking 5 of these bad boys and working my way through the box I discover there is no Zon! Instead it's Bob's 47 Oktoberfest, and this is an outstanding brew! This whole box is full of win. I really need to do the Boulevard tour one of these days. I'm really becoming a fan of their beer.

Been buying rum as we head for fall. Last night, some 4yr old Flor de Cana white rum (best tasting white rum I've ever tried, fwiw, a 'best buy') and Captain Morgan private stock, which ought to work well w/cola, worked well mixed w/hot mint/green tea last night as a hot toddy. Bought some Aniversario Pampero 'sipping rum' from Venezuela today.

I got me a sampler 12 pack of Boulevard that has some Lunar Ale and Irish Ale in it. I'm pretty excited to dig into that tonight.

But I've discovered a new favorite scotch. A few of you know how much I've raved on here about The Macallan. Great scotch, but a little too peaty for my taste. If you're in the same boat I strongly suggest dropping the same coin on a bottle of Balvenie the next time you're in the market. Bourbon lovers will rejoice at it's aftertaste, and it is pretty damn smooth for scotch. Great, great, stuff.

The Glenmorangie Lasanta.

This was fantastic. I didn't expect it. My previous experiences with Glenmorangie were not so promising, but this is the 1st time I've had the Lasanta. So smooth, absolutely no need for a mix -- simply a cube of ice and a wee drop and you're off.

Highly palatable (delicious highlights; this stuff was matured in Oloroso sherry casks), and highly recommended. Expensive and worth it.

Slante!

1554: Enlightened black ale

Born of a flood and centuries-old Belgian text, 1554 Enlightened Black Ale uses a lager yeast strain and dark chocolaty malts to redefine what dark beer can be. In 1997, a Fort Collins flood destroyed the original recipe our researcher, Phil Benstein, found in the library. So Phil and brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, traveled to Belgium to retrieve this unique style lost to the ages. Their first challenge was deciphering antiquated script and outdated units of measurement, but trial and error (and many months of in-house sampling) culminated in 1554, a highly quaffable dark beer with a moderate body and mouthfeel.

Kudos to you. I rarely drink anymore. Maybe a beer whenever I go out with friends who drink. Sometimes, I'll order a mixed drink on a Saturday whenever I'm at my local watering hole. That, or I know the bartenders and I sometimes get the excess when they mix up a margarita or I get a drink whenever they make something a server has put in incorrectly. That's it for me anymore.

Prolly. American Pils are a different animal entirely. Some still bring a bit of hops. But Pils were originally a bit of a hoppy brew. American Pils remind me of American Pale Ales with a bit of a bitter finish. And the major brewers will call anything a pils nowadays. Hell, Miller has the balls to call that swill a pils.

Just a note here. Schlitz and Gansett have re-opened as semi craft brewers. The old industrial beers are gone. Both produce a passable American pils now. They got back to their 50's roots and are using the old ingredients and better german hops. Not horrible brews for those who like the American beer flavor. Gansett is also producing dark ales, stouts, and porters. Gotta give props when due.

Glad you enjoyed it. Traded it for two sixers of Spaten Optimator today. I'll sip it this week...

The appearance is very dark amber, almost black. Very little foam. The first thing that comes to my mind in the smell was burnt apples. The taste is more bitter then I was expecting, but good, very malty. The mouthfeel was smooth, neither thick nor thin. Overall, this is not a bad beer, a bit malty, but I could get use to that.

I'm on the wagon for a bit to shed some Winter lbs. but The Riot Room is tapping a Blvd Chocolate keg tomorrow at 5pm for those left out last go around.
Lawlz, I showed anyway, not because of the beer, I know the beer is great, but the only thing better than consuming a Blvd Chocolate is consuming a Blvd Chocolate with 30 other Kansas Citians. Much like watching Mike Aviles step in the bucket and wave at a breaking ball at the K or on a Planet game thread, not that I'd ever compare that Snooki muther****er to a Blvd Chocolate short of a triple ****ing crown.

The point remains, it was my civic duty. King's City, ask somebody.

Death Combo - started with a couple margaritas, switched to vodka lemonade, followed by a screwdriver, and ended with about 3 orange gatorade/orange juice/vodka/everclear mixes. pays to have a stomach of steel

Tonight I'm sipping on some http://www.birddogwhiskey.com/BD4.html

Chasing that with some Heavy Horse Scotch Ale http://awmilleroutdoors.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/big-sky-heavy-horse-scotch-ale/

I like pretty much all the Big Sky Brewing Co. products.

Had a New Belgium Le Terroir (Dry-Hopped Sour Ale) earlier today. I think that's one of the best beers that New Belgium has ever made.

Mojitos tonight. I don't have any regular rum though so I am using Cruzan flavored rums. The coconut version OK. The vanilla version is really damn good.

Had a Blvd Wheat with dinner as well.
