Its' damn near 100 out there, so I'm sticking with Corona Extra with a twist of lime. I was at a refinery today supervising a 7 pump start up and there was a large explosion in a furnace. A good friend of mine came damn close to getting taken out. I was 200 yards away and the shock wave, moved me back. He was 20 feet away and it put him on his ass. If he would have been close to the designed blow out doors, it would have killed him I was working in the same area yesterday. Thank God, there wasn't a fire after the explosion. Yeah, I don't drink much these days, but I'm throwing some back tonight.

Stay safe man.... We all need our fuel, but not THAT badly!! Crap!!!!!!

Any opinions on this? I have 2 bottles in my cellar. There's a liquor store by my work that is having trouble selling these, no doubt due to the price point and their customer demographic. Wondering if I should just buy what they have left.

After a day of yard work, iced tea, and freaking suntan lotion (God I hate the crap!!!), it's now and new spiced run called "Kraken" with Diet Coke, infused "manually" with lemon. Tis good!! Then again, after today, almost anything would be good. But I'm thinking this is a keeper. The bottle of Kraken is worth it for the bottle alone!! :)

The Kraken is what I was drinking last night. Minus the Diet Coke and lemon. Just rum 'n rocks. Tasty.

I haven't had the 80 Acre yet, but looking at the description and having drank a ton of Tow Head, they don't sound far off. Tow Head is a wheat style beer with some hops zang to it. And I am not sensitive to hops at all.

Itjust occurred to me today that I kept saying Tow Head should be like the 80 Acres. I love Tow Head but what I meant to refer to was Mother's "Sandy". Its a hopped up wheat beer that sounds in description to be just like 80 Acres.

Found out my local place should have 80 Acres soon, looking forward to it. It's always interesting seeing the different take breweries have on the same style beers.

Re: Kraken rum - it's a tasty mixer. I'll sip rum in a pinch and this one's pretty smooth - no origin labeling but rumor says it's from Trinidad/Tobago. I like it mixed w/fruit juice - I gave up on cola years ago but I'll bet it's dandy in a rum and coke.

Compared to Goslings (Bermuda black rum)- seems sweeter to me. Smoother than some of the other black rums I've tried (Captain Morgan, Trader Vic's etc..) They're all good. I drink these w/strong ginger beer or failing that, ginger ale, slice of lemon.

:hmmm: Alright BUT, only because it is for the Planet.

2oz Absolut Peppar vodka
4oz V8
1-1/2oz Lea & Perrins
1 lemon wedge
1 lime wedge
3-4 dashes Tobasco (or more depending on just how hot you like it)
Celery salt
Black pepper
(I really hate to put the secret ingredient out here but oh well...) Horseradish to taste

Squeeze and drop the fruit in with everything else, shake well and strain into a tall ice filled and seasoned salt rimmed glass. Garnish as you like. What is really good is take pitted olives and stuff them with the horseradish. Typically the brand of vodka makes no difference when mixed with all the other stuff, but the Peppar actually does make a difference.
