I know one that drives me crazy. When people spell the name Gonzalez as Gonzales. While Gonzales is how some people spell their last name, it's not how Tony spells it.

It's a good thing the word vacuum isn't a part of our daily chatter here on the Planet- can't imagine how many times that would be misspelled.

Yeah, that one bugs me as well.

A thing DOMINATES... DOMINATE is a verb.
A thing is DOMINANT if it dominates.... DOMINANT is an adjective.

According to this guy's less than scientific method it's "transexual" (sic) by a wide margin:

http://www.waxy.org/archive/2003/04/03/typo_pop.shtml

Armed with a list of spelling errors and my old friend Google, I decided to see if I could find the most commonly misspelled word on the Web. If you can do better, leave a comment. (The number of results is in parentheses after each word or term.)

- transexual (2860k)
- didnt (1230k, via Matt)
- doesnt (1080k, via Evan)
- seperate (804k, via Bill)
- calender (727k, via Graham)
- definately (693k, via Shannon)
- recieve (667k, via Matt)
- offical (366k)
- managment (359k)

Using breathe as a noun, you mean, instead of a verb?

Yeah. For example: "I took a breathe and a gawd dammed gnat went down my throat".

I've seen it the opposite way too.

Yeah. For example: "I took a breathe and a gawd dammed gnat went down my throat".

I hate it when that happens. I was running one day lots of years ago and got a moth jammed in my throat that way. That was nasty. No water or anything to wash it down with. I used the spigot on the side of some house.

This is not really a misspelling, but unneccessary apostrophies bother me.

ie: "I think the Chief's are going to be good this year"
