I just heard on the radio that there is going to be an increase of pop up ads on the Tivo recordings. Since avoiding commercials is a primary reason for getting Tivo in the first place this is a shitty deal. They said these pop up ads can take up 25% of the screen. The only exception is if you have Tivo from Directv. All I can say is Haw Haw Haw! We win!

Not yet it doesn't. They just announced this morning that it is about to start. You were the first guy I thought of when I heard it. Hahahahahahaha! You don't drive an Edsel do you?

But isn't that because all the Tivo's are going to become obsolite on the directtv network anyway?

I don't have TIVO. I've got Cox Cable DVR, but i'm not sure what software they use. Hopefully not TIVO. If I start seeing ads, i'll be pissed.

I wish. I hate the damn things. My techs get in fights over who has to install them. They require an extra coax that we don't get paid for. I hope they all blow up.

This is the first I've heard of it and you know about how accurate the media is but they said Directv DVR is the ONLY exception. When Rupert Murdock took over D* one of his first acts was to divorce Tivo. He may have known something the others didn't. Wouldn't be the first time.

I wouldn't mind as much if TIVO wouldn't let you skip commercials. But to have pop-ups is just terrible.

All the time. Everywhere. I hope they put them in the middle of the screen.

Heh, what's an Edsel? I think you're showing your age. :D

Tell ya what, if DN ever decides to pull this crap then I'll say Skip was right. Until then, you still suck. :p

DirecTV is releasing its own non-TiVo DVR this fall. It is called the R15. It lacks some functionality of the TiVo units [for example, while it has dual tuners, you cannot record [2] programs and watch a third].

TiVo’s contract with DirecTV expires in 2007. Whether the DirecTiVo units will work after that point is unknown at this time.

As long as I have Season Passes, Wish Lists and dual tuners, I do not care whose name is on the box.

I'm leaning toward just giving up TV altogether. I think it was just a fad.

Hey Skip, I was just thinking of something else. You do realize that the DN dvr is not a service like Tivo, right? I mean, yeah I do pay $5 a month to lease the receiver but I don't pay a fee for the Tivo service. As far as I know, they aren't related.

I don't know much about the operation of Tivos or DVRs. But I've had E* (Dish Notwork) techs tell me they are a POS compared to Directv's version. Herzig knows a lot about Tivos, he's blown up three or four of them. I'll go with what he says.

Heh, I know you're a DTV guy and therefore your opinion is biased against DN, whether you'll admit it or not. And I really just like giving you a hard time. It has nothing to do with DN vs DTV. ;)

Here's my honest take on them. I don't really care one way or the other. If DTV offers a better deal, I would go with them. At this point, I've had DN for about 3/4 of a year and I've been very pleased with them up to this point. Frankly, I think your low opinion of them is not justified.

You told me it is because of poor equipment and poor customer service. My personal experience, so far, has been that the equipment is fine. Now, if it breaks tomorrow, I'll stand corrected. But my receivers have worked properly thus far. And the customer support has been very good. For example, I just re-roofed my house a little over a week ago. They normally would charge about $70 to come out and take off the dish and then come back and re-install it. They waived the fee for me. The only problem I had was with the order taker getting the re-install date wrong and I had to wait a couple days longer to get my service back.

But those are just my own personal experiences. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule. I dunno.

Eh, I wouldn't have that even if I had DTV. Now, if I lived out of state then I'd definitely go with DTV. But I could care less about the other games that are on every weekend. The only one that matters is the Chiefs game.

Problem is your local station has the right of first refusal. They want to show the game, it's not on sunday ticket. They don't feel like showing it, they don't.

Last year my local area didn't show 5 games (3 of the last 7). No ticket, no Chiefs.

I'm not going to be held hostage by the whims of my locals. Besides, I'm also a Steelers fan and run a fantasy league. I want to be able to determine what games I watch...

Now, if you're not an NFL fan (just follow your favorite team) you can probably get most of your games through locals or East/West coast feeds. I was also told that DN had better porn stations but have yet to confirm this...

I loved Cowher as our DC and I've always been a fan of the bigger and more physical RB's (Bettis, Barry Foster, Hodge, Okoye, Natrone Means, etc.) When he went to Pitt it was like the Northeast Chiefs.

Only they could win a playoff game...

Not to mention that they actually made it to the Super Bowl. Granted, they got beat by Dallas, but still....

Hell I will go back to cable if I have to, so if this is a victory it is a pyric victory.

What were the 3 games out of the last 7 that weren't shown? I live in central Mo and the only games that weren't on local TV were the Panthers and Falcons games. The Titans and Pats were obviously on and KRCG had all the others.

KRCG is the bastards that forced me to get DTV. I'll have to go back n check. All the games with local commercials were from cable-.....uh.....not from DTV.

If I can get it on sunday ticket that means it's not on my locals. Come to think of it I think most my taped games were on Sunday ticket... :hmmm:

Pyric? My victory is on fire? If D* is the only one without pop ups I'll bet people go to D* for their DVR.
