That just reads funny... ROFL I learned how to type in high school and I'm not inclined to hunt pecker. You can touch base with gochiefs, though.

They started us out at typing at around 3rd/4th grade. I type around 100 A/WPM.

I guess I learned the essentials in school. After that, video games taught me speed. Can't smack talk in a FPS without some form of speed...

Similar to Phobia, typed about 34 words a minute or something like that in the semester class in HS. But after getting into IM'ing people I learned to type a lot faster, plus just being on the computer every damn day for a living has helped as well. Started typing even faster when I picked up one of the MS Natural Keyboards, because it keeps me from cheating.

Still not great by any means, and it doesn't help that I can't spell, but occasionaly can take off typing pretty damn quickly.

I learned to type from chatting on AOL in like the 4th grade. I got good when I was in highschool though. I had to go through the whole program before they would let me test out so I spent like a month doing all the stupid lessons of asdf fdsa and shit. Finally, I could take the final test and nailed it. I then had virtually a whole semester to dick around for 40 minutes a day.

Not talking about dial-up Internet access. I'm talking about when a guy would set up a computer in his house w/ a modem and publish the phone number. Then, I would sit at home on my machine, dial his number, and our computers were connected directly to each other. His machine would be running some manner of BBS software... I could post in forums much like this... play games... etc.

I was a regular member on a handful. Thankfully they're all long gone now, so my old Slayer-esque postings aren't archived for posterity.

At my parents' insistence, I took a typing class during my senior year in high school. Interestingly, computers were barely around in keyboard form, so they told me to take it so I could use a typewriter. It turned out to be a good move that was made for the wrong reasons.

The three most interesting things that happened in that class were:

1. Angela, our resident attractive Hispanic pom pom girl, turned me down for a date. I thought I was pretty clever to type a note asking her out during a timing practice, but alas, my cleverness wasn't rewarded.

2. I got to watch Dawn, our attractive blond omnisexual predator, braid Angela's hair at the table across from me, which was quite entrancing for an 18 year-old who had dirty, dirty fantasies about both girls.

3. During class one day, they announced over the speaker system that President Reagan had been shot. It later emerged that Hinckley did it "to impress Angela."

I took a typing class in Jr High that didn't help me much - though I did learn where my fingers are supposed to go. My first real learning curve came with Sierra's Police, Kings, and Space Quest games where you had to type every action in. In the last year, I notice that in over 11k posts here, I have finally aquired the ability to type without looking at the keyboard all the time.

I learned how to type in high school but I was one of those guys that thought "'Puters? WTF do I need ta' know 'bout 'puters for?"

Yeah, call me oracle of ****ing Delphi.

Anyway, after finding the old Star BB and then this place I started typing enough that after my last three tests I average 62 words a minute. Eight more than my typing instructor.

I learned to type in high school but kinda forgot after that. I began to hunt and peck until I remembered where the keys were. I now type while looking at the key board, not hunting and pecking but really typing....I just have to look at what I am typing.

Either you have 6 fingers on your left hand or you are using another appendage to cover that 6th key on the left side of the KB.

In elementary, they installed typing games and put stickers over the letters so there would be no use in looking down at the keyboard. What sucked was that after 2 years, we were told not to use the watergun game (where you get a bucket of water for each correctly-typed sentence) because it "encouraged violence and criminal activities". That was one more reason for me to be against liberal crap back then.

I took type'n in HS, but damn, that was 33 years ago........ Done forgot how to do it that way since I never used it again .

Started out by hunt and peck...... moved up to be a fast 1 finger pecker, then a 2 finger pecker, dam, now I'm up to about 4 fingers flying across the keyboard. Of course, all of this while still looking for the keys. I do about 35 -50 words a minute now depending on what I must type.
