Rick Dean, of the Capital-Journal, reports Kansas City Chiefs WR Freddie Mitchell (knee) did not undergo a scheduled arthroscopic examination on his sore knee Monday, August 1. Mitchell sought a second opinion instead and now is scheduled to have the procedure done Tuesday, August 2, head coach Dick Vermeil said. Vermeil seemed a little bit upset with the situation. "All he did was delay getting back here and getting his (butt) back to work," Vermeil said.

"To me that is the most critical thing we have to do, we have to change the culture of the defense, the attitude we bring on the table and the brotherhood," Cunningham said.

KCChiefs.com reports Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson announced Monday, Aug. 1, that the club has agreed to exercise its option to continue conducting its training camp at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2006. Kansas City's 2006 training camp on the River Falls campus will mark the 16th consecutive year the Chiefs will conduct their preseason work in Western Wisconsin. Peterson announced that the team has added two more one-year options to its existing agreement with UW-RF which had three one-year options remaining, including 2006.

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have established a one practice on, one practice off schedule for RB Priest Holmes and he is not complaining. "My body feels good," Holmes said in what has become his annual training camp health update. "I can definitely say that if I was practicing twice a day it probably would not feel as good as it does now. It's not disruptive at all." The Chiefs are hopeful some extra rest in July and August will pay dividends in December and January. Don't expect the Chiefs to go any easier on Holmes once the regular season begins in September. They aren't planning that. "Priest Holmes is our starting running back, and Larry Johnson is his backup," Vermeil said. "They'll both play. If you follow Priest's career, it is go, go, go, and all of a sudden he needs a blow and comes out."

Rick Dean, of the Topeka Capital-Journal, reports the Kansas City Chiefs are hoping that OG Will Shields (back) can recover from his back injury. Shields was scheduled to be examined by a Los Angeles specialist Monday, Aug. 1. "I've talked to the doctors thoroughly and we've looked at the MRIs," said Chiefs president Carl Peterson. "This is something he's had before. Our goal is to have him ready on Sept. 11 (for the season opener against the New York Jets). I don't think he's going to forget the playbook after 13 seasons."

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs first-round draft pick LB Derrick O. Johnson agreed to terms of a five-year, $10.5 million contract. Johnson could make as much as $13.6 million if he reaches incentives that would boost his fifth-year salary. About $7.8 million of the contract is guaranteed. Johnson is expected to begin practicing Tuesday, August 2.

Is anybody playing?.........I wonder how much of these little injuries are players not wanting to go through double time practices.
