Brown Injured in Morning Practice

By Andrew Mason
DenverBroncos.com

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- It was a with piercing, horrifying yelp from Courtney Brown that the Broncos' relatively tranquil training camp was shattered Thursday morning.

The six-year veteran defensive end will miss at least three weeks with a dislocated left elbow incurred during team drills during a morning practice session at the South Suburban Sports Dome.

"The X-rays were negative," Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. "There were no breaks, so he should be out anywhere from optimistically three weeks to pessimistically four to six weeks."

The injury was what defensive end Trevor Pryce termed a "freak accident."

"I think a safety hit him in his elbow as he was running downfield," Pryce said. "It's one of those things that happens."

Added defensive tackle Luther Elliss: "It looked like he was just going to help make the tackle and his arm just got caught between the ballcarrier and the tackler. He popped it out."

Brown's teammates knew the nature of the injury immediately.

"It was (scary), but I think everybody knew what happened," Pryce said. "Gerard went and looked at it, and he said, 'He dislocated his elbow.' It was out of place."

a dislocated elbow can turn into more than just 3 weeks for a lineman.

didn't he hurt his elbow once in his career already?

I don't care if you are KC, Denver or Oakland, injuries suck. Why did a safety hit a DE, though?

i would imagine that the safety was going after the ball and the DE got caught in the middle.

almost the same thing happened to me one time

my wrist got caught between the running back's helmet and a safety's helmet.

Didn't Sims miss the rest of his rookie season with that kind of injury?

I am not surprised Brown is a walking injury thats the reason why he never lived up to his draft status.

I think Sims did dislocate his elbow his rookie season, but I also think there was a fracture involved in the elbow.

I dislocated my elbow(not grotesquely...just wouldn't bend right or straiten) and waited a few days to put it back in. Sore and weak for 3-4 months.

Injuries suck.

This could be a lingering problem for Brown all season.

I fractured my elbow on March 11th of this year in a biking accident and it was not fun. The fracture has healed but my ligaments and tendons shrank and actually need to be stretched. I'm still in a static brace to this day and will be for another 4-6 weeks. They tell me that when it's all healed, there is a very good chance that I will lose some range of motion. :cuss:

Brown is damn LUCKY he didn't fracture it cause he would have likely been out for the season.

Stunning development. Stunning.

In other news, Jake Plummer threw 56 interceptions in practice today, thinking Champ Bailey was taking snaps with the offense. Ironically, however, every member of the Broncos secondary made a pick except for Bailey.

Well i won the over under on when he could get injured. I wonder what kind of odds I could get that the first diagnosis will be upgraded to a ligament or muscle injury and he will miss half the season.

Reach into the hat and grab a name... maybe this Engleberger guy from SanFran will step up, or one of the other dozen options.

I can't believe that the Bron cos traded Middlebrooks for Engleberger. I don't necessarily think that Engleberger is a world-beater, but he at least produced a little bit. Middlebrooks had no productivity at all.

On NFL Live today during the 2 minute drill they talked about this, Trey asked Salisbury about it and he said, "Well it's a good thing they have 47 defensive linemen on the roster."
