You have got to be kidding me.....just a week ago the prices were dipping back down to $2.13 in the metro area...then today I pull into the gas station to read that it's $2.42 a gallon for REGULAR!!!!! I know up in the mountains that was pretty normal for regular...average of .15 to .20 more in the mountains than the city....but damn what the hell is going on? Gas prices are gonna be up past $3.00 when winter hits...this is getting insane

As Bob Dole pointed out on a different thread, gas is not really that expensive ... if you know where to look for it.
Bob Dole filled up for $1.12/gal in Crawford, TX on Saturday.

I used to joke with my old roomate a few years back.

I would say to him:
"Eventually we're all going to end up riding bikes."

Snide comment or prophetic slip...

stay tuned.

The only way we can get back at these ridicules Oil prices is buy more of the Gasoline/electric cars. Toyota is making out big time with the Prius right now. Quit buying the gas-eating SUV's. You are playing right into the oil companies hands.

The problem isn't the the fact that production is being held back. It's a issue of demand going up. China and India have started comsuming oil at a much higher rate. They're having trouble refining enough sweet crude to keep up with the demand.

What this country needs is to elect an oil insider who can implement policies that enhance the industry in a way that ultimately benefits the consumer. Or at the very least, we need to be sold on a candidate with the possiblility of that promise.

On the other hand, if this happened that person would probably only make excuses for the industry while it continued to increase its record profits every single year.

Of course, this is only my opinion of what might happen if we elected an oil insider.

Good for you. Really, I mean it.

I just hope this country doesn't get so enamoured with "investing" that it forgets the basics; hard work, integrity, respect, and service.

Money for nuthin' ain't the American Way, IMHO.

.......and our minds.Well, what would you have us do to "find our way"?

Well, we could outlaw SUV's and mandate hybrid cars that get 50 mpg, that would help.

Then we could drill in Alaska, yep , that would help.

Then we could drill off the shore in California, yep, that would help.

Then we could ease the environmental restrictions on new refineries, yep, that would help.

Perhaps, with the higher prices as an incentive, fuel engineers might be able to create new fuels from other souces such as hydrogen, or alcohol, thus lessening the demand for oil, yep, that would help.

Sitting arround crying about market forces, and blaming it on a political figure head because it makes you happy, PRICELESS.

If prices keep climbing I seriously think my next car might be one of those Scion xBs... despite how hideous they look, they are rated as having top leg and head room for a big guy like me, get 30+ mpg, can carry the kids around in if necessary, have excellent reliability ratings, and are dirt cheap. Not too many vehicles hit all of those categories.

Why not steal it? Just drill into the peoples' gas tanks and drain them dry.

I saw a bumper sticker on a truck today. Instead of "Kansas: As Big As You Think," they had added a "oted" to the "Big." Made me giggle.
