Suspect paternity opens up Pandora's Box
Vijay Dutt
London, August 11, 2005

A rise in genetic testing has opened a Pandora's Box of sexual secrets. One in 25 fathers could unknowingly be bringing up a child who is not his own, according to a new research.

One of the authors of the study that covered the period from 1950 until 2004, Prof Mark Bellis of the Centre of Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University, said that DNA testing found rates as low as one per cent and as high as 30 per cent with a median of four per cent.

This means that paternity could be disputed in 24000 out of 600,000 live births in England and Wales last year.

Bellis pointed out, " Twenty years ago doctors would have tended not to tell when they came across this (about child not being of the person known as father) information unless it was important for the health of the child.

"But advances in genetics mean that there is now more pressure for a child to know who his or her biological parents are." There were about 10,000 paternity testing last year. This recorded a 10 per cent rise.

A testing company said, " It is an extremely serious area and it is a very interesting question as to who has what rights a child has to know his own identity." The organisation found that about 30 per cent of the tests showed that the man was not the biological father of the child. The managing director of DNA Bioscience Avi Lasarow said that an analysis of about 1500 mothers and fathers who had used the services in the past six months had found that 20 per cent of men were not the biological fathers of the child.

Such a problem ruined one Michael, who after a whirlwind romance married his girlfriend. They moved together and planned life together and have a child. But his career in banking kept him away to France a lot. He started to suspect that his partner was unfaithful. But since he was still in love, he just suppressed his feelings.

Meanwhile she became pregnant. The relationship was breaking up and divorced followed. But when a son was born he wanted to know if he was his. Secretly he took the swab of hi son's mouth. The test proved he was the biological father. Michael then had to fight hard to have an access to his son.

Such a case could become quite common now. More men seeking DNA proof of paternity, which costs 200. From next April, a clause in the Human Tissue Act will make it an offence to take material such as hair to be used for DNA testing without full consent.

I omitted "All women are" because the study really only shows that 1 in 25 are.

No, the study only shows that 1 in 25 get caught having given birth to the evidence. How many more:

* Get abortions
* Didn't get pregnant

You can stick with the "All women are" I think.

That's all we can really deal with. I'm not necessarily saying the other 24 aren't whores... just, this study doesn't prove they are.

well, in my estimation... all women are whores, some just hide it better than others.

on the flip side... all men are whores... we just dont hide it, we brag about it.

I think you'd have to qualify these whores with "dumb" or some other descriptor. Anyone who cheats and then gives birth to proof positive they did it deserves special recognition.

We've got over 5,000 registered members here.

I bet there's at least 25 fathers in that group...

Seems to me you are off... Statistically speaking 1 in5 are proven whores, the rest were not caught...

Wow, I can't believe Professors had to spend money researching this, to figure out that there might be paternity questions now and then when it comes to whores...

Then again,

Maybe their study consisted of them traveling from pub to pub spending money buying whores drinks, patching the hatchet wound, giving fake names and then keeping a record of them all as they give birth over the next 54 years.

And for the record, his "wife" is a whore.

Why? He's the dumbass that got married, thus flushing his chance for my sympathy down the toilet.

(all men = whore) + (all males ≠ men) = all males ≠ whore

= gochief ≠ whore

:hmmm: Good point. These women didn't get pregnant without their husbands all by themselves. However, I don't believe that all women are unfaithful whores.
