Marlins batboy reportedly suspended over dare

A Florida Marlins batboy earned himself a six-game suspension from the team for accepting a dare to drink a gallon of milk in less than an hour without throwing up, according to a report in The Miami Herald.

The Herald says Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny (who was traded by the Marlins to L.A. last season) offered the unidentified boy $500 last Sunday if he could accomplish the task.

Penny reportedly said that the batboy drank the gallon of milk in the allotted time, but was not able to keep it down.

''It's kind of ridiculous that you get a 10-game suspension for steroids and a six-game suspension for milk,'' Penny said.

As a result, the batboy will not be allowed to work the team's upcoming homestand Aug. 29-Sept. 4 vs. the Cardinals and Mets.

The Marlins refused to comment on the suspension.

''It's ridiculous that they worry about stuff like that,'' Penny said. "It shows they (the Marlins organization) don't know anything about the game. That kind of stuff goes on everywhere. It didn't affect the way he worked, the way he did his job.''

I think Penny should worry about his play on the mound, not thinking up stupid tricks to play on the other teams bat boys.

Bullshit. I can drink two large glasses of milk in like 20 minutes.

On an empty stomach, I could easily down that gallon. I'd be willing to do it in front of planeteers, too.

Thank about that in terms of beer. Without factoring in the alcohol, it would still be nearly impossible to drink 11 beers in an hour.
It's kind of like the old "eat 6 saltines in a minute" or "one slice of bread in minute" gigs. Everyone thinks they can, but it's pretty damn hard.

Maybe we can pledge a "milk off" for the 37 Forever Banquet. Both guys have to drink a gallon of milk, and the first person to drink it and keep it down for ten minutes wins. I'll put in five bucks.

Maybe there can be a bonus for whomever can do 50 jumping jacks afterward, too.

In a related story, it was reported the bat boy's 6-game suspension will cost him tree fiddy.

And Bob Dole thinks the Milk Chug is a great idea for the Saturday 37 Forever festivities.

Immediately followed, of course, by the First Annual Hop-Skip-and-Puke competition.

You guys are missing part of the rules for "The Milk Challenge". If you're going to do it then do it right.

1. You choose your type of milk.
2. You must drink the entire gallon in one hour or less.
3. After you finish a timer starts and you must keep it down for one hour, no puking or pissing.

As I understand it the science about why you can't do it has to do with the lactose and every human's intollerance to some degree. Not to mention it's a GALLON of cold fluid. Any of you geniuses think you're going for it try it "naturally" first, then try it by downing a couple of Lactaids first. I have a theory the Lactaid will allow you to deal with it better.

I've never seen anyone actually pull it off BTW.

That's incredibly lame. Brad Penny should take him and his buddies out for pizza (no milkshakes) as well as replace the boy's salary.

Bob Dole drank nearly 2 gallons of beer during Greek Week back in the day. Bob Dole would be lying if he claimed to have held it down for more than the required 15 minutes.

That said, the "adult" Bob Dole has consumed so many beers in an evening that a routine belch resulted in a visible mouthful of foam. It really arouses the female companion sitting next to you.

Really.

I think I could do it, but I'm not sure enough to say absolutely. I do know that after being out in the heat for a while, I can down 80-90 ounces of water in 5-10 minutes time. I know that because the water bottles I use are 42 oz. I can chug one bottle non-stop - the kids are amazed when I do that. Then the next one can disappear in 5-10 minutes depending on how hot and thirsty I am. I would think that I could do the Milk in pint to quart chugs spread out over the hour and actually pull it off.

Now, that no urinal provision would be tough. 2 hours without going would be rather difficult - regardless of what I have been drinking.

I think it is highly possible.. My roomates knocked a full size keg in 55minutes during a kegathon... there were six of them drinking nonstop, and no puking...

I have downed two 2-liter bottles of mt. dew before in about a hour...

As for the no pissing rule, never heard that added on... I think everybody would allow pissing if you managed to drink the whole gallon of milk in a hour... Hell, I could prolly drink the whole gallon of milk in about twenty minutes but i know I would puke...

This whole thing was a big deal on sports radio this morning. KJR 950AM in Seattle has a morning guy who had his producer do it. He's 6'2 304lbs and went through a gallon of skim milk in an hour. I don't know if he puked within the hour though cause I had to work. Kind of pissed me off he was only 15 minutes away with the milk all drank when I had to turn it off
