Our prices are usually the lowest in the nation. Why not? The oil is taken out of the ground here and taken to a refinery 10 miles away. But I paid $2.56 last night. $46 to fill an Astrovan that was 1/2 full.

However wide spread panis has done set in, we have 5 gas stations here in town and III was delievery pizzas tonight and said stations were backed up.

I mentioned to the station manger the price increase was crazy he said, I know, but our supplier said they couldn't get anymore supplies until thursday, maybe friday !

Supposed to go up at least 20 more cents by Wednesday. I heard we might get up to $3.15 before it's all over. I had between a half and three quarters of a tank of gas on my way home from work tonight. I went ahead and filled up anyway.

How many Boycott Gas Days have we had? Usually one every single time the price goes up. Does it ever work? No. What you don't spend in one day, you'll make up for by spending either the day before or the day after. And one lil' ol' day is not going to hurt major oil companies.

Noticed this is your first post. Don't mean to give you a hard time. Just my opinion. Welcome!

Not quite. Gas is still really expensive right now, even taking into account inflation. Just 5-6 years ago, gas was around $1.50 a gallon here in Chicago, and it's almost doubled since then looking at today's price. That would have to be extreme inflation.

The only time gas has been more expensive, taking into account inflation, was the oil crisis in the 70's, when adjusted for inflation, was something like $3.50 per gallon in current dollars.

So it is still cheaper (bearly) than '70s after factoring in inflation.

If you want to do something meaningful, make it a boycott that lasts a month.

What's that going to do even if you did it? Current gas prices are due to high costs of a barrel of oil, which are in turn due to demand. You get enough people to stop buying, and the price falls as the demand does.. until you start buying again and it goes back up. What good did that do?

$ 10.00 would be alot to save for 1 vehicle, espcially if the stations were going to run out. That's a big tank........

In KY, here in smalltown USA wide spread panic grew at an alarming rate last night. People was buying gas because the local distributors claimed they wouldn't have supplies till late week again.

We took 4 vehicles down and filled up last night..... The savings of $ 12.00 over 40 gallons of gas wasn't the reason I went, it was the fear of not having any gas in those vehicles for 4 days if I needed to use any of them.

My daughter and III have to get to work, they are good for the week and I have gas in the car to make my trip to Ft Campbell, KY thursday for my SIL shipping out to Iraq.

ROFL I didn't realize Kentucky was so isolated from the rest of the country.

It has nothing to do with that, the distributor was concentrating there efforts to help out down south, cutting back on supplies here.

Shows what you really know ......... :p

FTR, the bigger cities around here have plenty of gas, it's just we might have to drive 30 miles to go fill it up if you get low. So basically everybody here went into panic mode, filled up ahead of time. When in reality, there was probally enough supply to not miss a beat.

The media covered a story and the people panicked. Either the distributor knew what he was doing or didn't realize what the consumer would do.

Regardless, I knew we needed gas for the kids to get to work and my trip out of town Weds. night.....I went ahead and filled up.

Better to be safe than sorry......
