Sure, this is about as relevant as the DNC website getting a link to the Red Cross up 4 hours before the RNC website. But I hate going to bed thinking that all the libs on the board are in fear of a boycott.

Dems Used Katrina to Raise Funds
Friday, September 09, 2005

WASHINGTON A new Democratic effort to whip up indignation about the Bush administration's handling of Hurricane Katrina also tried to raise money for Democratic candidates.

Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat and the head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued an appeal Thursday urging people to sign an online petition to fire the Federal Emergency Management Agency's director over his handling of the Katrina response.

After an inquiry from the Associated Press, the DSCC quickly pulled down the page and said they would give the Red Cross any money raised by the anti-FEMA petition.

When recipients clicked on a link to the petition, the top center of the screen above the call to "Fire the FEMA director" had asked for a donation to the DSCC.

Since Katrina, Democrats have contended the GOP administration badly botched the response, and some have called for the firing of FEMA chief Michael Brown.

Republicans hit back by accusing Democrats of trying to use the human tragedy for political gain. The DSCC letter, the GOP said Thursday, was proof.

"It's a disgrace to exploit Hurricane Katrina to raise political funds," said Brian Nick, spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

DSCC spokesman Phil Singer said: "While the content of the letter is totally valid, it should never have been linked to a Web site that asks people to contribute to political campaigns."

Politics as usual. I don't see this as any different than the GOP trying to cash in on 9/11.

Both parties suck.

better or worse than the presidential photo ops using up time from FEMA volunteers?

better or worse than Cheney saying the terrorists would kill us all if a democrat was elected?

It all just goes to show that politicians are... well they are all politicians. Which is another way of saying they will do/use anything/anyone to get or keep power.

Yes, they do. But I don't think it was the DNC who did this. It was the Senatorial Democrats. IINM.

That reminds me of the Fox News "commerical" for their hurricane coverage. They show the different pictures of the people "suffering" while a voice-over says "suffering," or something like that, then they show the photo of W on the plane looking over what is supposed to be NO and the voice-over says "hope." The situation is horrible, but that commercial gave me a bit of a chuckle.

I dunno...

Dean does seem to have the GOP on the run. But, when I say that I can't figure out if it from his doing or the GOP's own actions.

If we've got a Bush running against a Clinton next election I'm voting for whatever nutjob the libertarians offer up...
