Exactly. When it's comfortably under $2.00 then I'll feel like things are back where they should be...

I also heard that George Bush is to blame for LJ's women problems.
Gas Prices are going to remain high until we drill or find other sources of energy.
This week I have visited a 100 million gallon ethonal plant being built in Iowa. Auto manufactureres need to build cars that run on E85 that get good fuel millage.

They already do. E85 cars own as they can also burn regular gas.

I'm going on record we'll never see $2 gas again.
And yes, we have ourselves and the oil companies to blame.
Heck, gas has gone way down in the ATL. It was $6.04 here one day at some stations. Now it's $2.59.
Sad that I like to see $2.59 and think, wow what a good price!
It must be Bush's fault.

Bush and Cheneyburton went to Iraq for oil and look what happened. They can't even steal oil good! ROFL

I think there's a 50/50 chance. Some are speculating that the price of oil is way overvalued, and that it's going to crash.
We'll see.
Oh, and you forgot to also blame absurd enviromental red tape and NIMBY.

Before Katrina it cost me about $2.49/gal. It spiked at $2.99 and is currently $2.89. This for regular ul in western Colorado.
Not in my area. Went as high as 3.19 and now sits at 2.69...

I guess the state of Colorado needs the money more. Don't know why ours is still pretty high.

Absolutely correct.
Donger...your obsession with environmental red tape is admirable, but I fear, misplaced. If oil companies WANTED to build more refineries they would.
They don't for several reasons, only one of them being red tape. The reality is that they know how much oil is out there. They also know there is not going to be a need for more refineries in 10 - 15 years because there will not be the crude to run them. Simple economics. They are not going to build refineries that can't pay off.
Talk to the oil geologists and quit listening to economists.

I said "also." I'm well aware that one of the major reasons that they don't want to build new refineries is that they are not immediately profitable.
Then again, when it takes a minimum of five years to get a clean air permit, why on earth would they want to even try?

You'll see me praising No One when gas is still over $2.50 a damn gallon. Get it down to $1.50 and I'll think its getting where it should be.

I hear that. Hell, I'd be happy with it at $2.00 a gallon.

The whole premise behind the oil companies surge in prices was to increase the price of gas, the hurricane and the labor day holiday were catalyst to cover their desire to gouge the public and to increase their over the top profit margin.
Gas here topped out at $3.29 and is now at $2.34.
There needs to be some legislation that regulates the "profit margin" for the oil companies. The prices they charge for gas/fuel has a direct impact on all aspects of American life.
How many of you will receive a COLA in January that actually represents the differential of your fuel costs?
Watch this winter, Natural Gas prices will go through the ceiling. They may subside after two or three months, but the base price will be increased substantially.
Sunoco used to make $0.06 per gallon of gas manufactured, that price was in the not too distant past. They are now making in the area of $1.00 per gallon. What does that tell you about the cost of gas at the pumps?

If a gas station owner filled his underground tanks just before the huge price hikes, he could've made an assload of money during the spike in prices.
Then the fuggin prices level off at about $2.50?
Someone needs to die.

I don't blame Bush for the higher prices. I am even thankful to Bush for the low prices on gas before the election. Timing is everything.
