Should Gunther go back up top? Seems to me it would make more sense.

Yes, and while he's up there he could take his sniper rifle with him and start picking off opposing players as needed.

Gunther is fine where he is. The D played great in the first half.

We collapsed in the second half because our offense did nothing.

Why, he is playing a damn zone D with little or no pressure on the QB. It has failure written all over it.

As much as we're jumping on the defense here and rightfully so, they played horribly. Our offense hung them out to dry what did we have 6 or 7, 3 and outs? We don't have some awesome defense where we can get away with doing that. Anytime we leave our defense on the field as much as we did today we are going to lose games and give up a ton of points.

Yes....except all that T.O. running aorund wide open uncovered.

If our offense showed up in the second half, mounted a couple of drives, we would have won.

The D certainly deserves its share of blame, but they played great in the first half.

31 points is more than enough to win...if you have a good D, which we don't

that doesn't excuse the offense, it just states the obvious: 31 points is enough to win

but, just like last year, we scored 30 and lost

Iowanian
10-02-2005, 08:03 PM
The Defense isn't responsible for all of those points.....the offense contributed with fumbles, INTs and INTS for TDs.

The Chiefs really need some DT help.

Better push from the middle would improve our DEs in a hurry.

Yep.

Hell, was anyone here expecting McCleon to pick off a deep pass intended for Terrell Owens? I sure wasn't.

Green essentially gave up 14 of those. Plus, Special Teams scored 7.

This was a total team loss. Total team collapse.

This is a soft football team. I wonder who that could be blamed upon. *sniff*

I would say the play calling on the offensive side of the ball sucked. But fumbles hurt us. We were in a position to play threw Trent's first INT.

10-02-2005, 08:05 PM
The D didn't play great by any stretch, but over half of Philly's points came when we turned the ball over and gave them great field position and/or let them score. The offense is as much to blame as the defense in my book. Sure we put up a lot of points, but we were also turning the ball over in horrible positions, playing Mike Martz football, no thanks.

Iowanian
10-02-2005, 08:06 PM
The Defense definitely has some blame...But INTs, fumbles at midfield, and Fumbles on KO to give another posession and the lead, hurt.

The offense was as bad as the defense today.

I'm not denying that...and Special teams count....bottom line is 31 is enough

if it isn't then we're no better than last year and we have no hope...

Philadelphia's scoring drives:

02:40 1:26 50 5 50 Touchdown
15:00 2:46 PHI 48 8 26 Field Goal
03:35 1:41 PHI 40 4 60 Touchdown
00:27 3:49 PHI 10 9 71 Field Goal
11:30 2:33 KC 25 6 25 Touchdown
07:10 3:48 KC 41 9 33 Field Goal

50, PHI 48 (FG), PHI 40 (TD), KC 25 (TD), KC 41 (FG)... that's 27 of the 30 points the D surrendered that started 60 yards or less (four of the scores coming from 50 or less) from the end zone. Not that the D was spectacular, by any stretch -- God knows there was enough suckage to go around -- but the offense truly DISAPPEARED in the second half.

12:14 2:11 KC 39 3 -1 Punt
06:33 2:58 KC 7 6 19 Punt
01:54 1:27 KC 36 4 22 Punt
11:38 0:08 0 0 Fumble
08:57 1:47 KC 26 5 22 Interception
03:22 1:58 KC 25 8 75 Touchdown

OK this whole "31 is enough to win" needs examined so lets look at todays scores. These are the totals from todays winning teams.

There were 4 teams that scored 31 or more points todays.

San Francisco 14
San Diego 41
Denver 20
Cincinnati 16
Washington 20
Indianapolis 31
Tampa Bay 17
NY Giants 44
New Orleans 19
Baltimore 13
Oakland 19
Atlanta 30
Philadelphia 37

Total points scored - 321
Divided by number of teams playing - 13
Average score of winning team - 24.69

The calculator doesn't lie.

tk13

Philadelphia scored one TD on an INT return.

For their other 6 scoring drives, their average starting field position was the PHI 47 yard line.

For their 5 non-scoring drives (not including after the onside kick), their starting field position was the PHI 24 yard line.

Funny how that works.

11:30 2:33 KC 25 6 25 Touchdown

"Thanks a lot, O!"

No. Gunther needs to get his own coaches. I don't know how he does it. The assistant coaches he has now don't stand for what he believes in when it comes to defense.

Since DV won't get rid of any of his assistant coaches, it'd really be best for Gun to just leave after this year if DV comes back.

No matter what, I want DV gone after this year. Five years is long enough. I don't want another 50 year plan of mediocrity. Thanks DV, but time to move on after this year, you gave it your best shot.

Im curious to knowing what ever happened to the aggresive schemes Gunther used to run a while back?

What ever happened to press man-to-man coverages? Lber blitzing, etc?

My point is, whatever happened to the aggressive physically we were used to seeing from Gunthers defenses in the past?

Why all this zone? I cant understand it.

I'm starting to think that the only reason dick keeps changing his mind about retiring is that it's pretty easy and nice to wander the sidelines and get paid millions. Let your anti-coordinators and average players do all the messing up, and he'll take up for you in his press conference. Pretty good gig. ROFL

If we hold the D to the 2002-2004 standard, they played okay. If we hold the D to the standard of what it takes to be successful in the playoffs, they failed miserably.

As bad as the O played, how many teams put up 31 on the Eagles?

The fact remains that if we struggle at all on offense, we lose. Same old shit. Gunther's return has been a huge bust.

This season isn't over yet by any means and we could still and probably will make the playoffs hopefully, but I'm looking forward to a house cleaning after this year. I know Carl will be back unfortunately, but we can't help that. Get rid of everyone else.

Having Gun on the sideline or in the box makes will not change the fact that the D-Line is not getting any pressure on QB's...He could stay at home and call plays and it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference :banghead:  :cuss: :shake:

The defense is a scapegoat again. The offense got up 17 and then let their leg off the Eagles' throats.

The defense didn't perform all that well, but zero help in the 2nd half and the 3 & outs, coupled with turnovers broke the defenses back.

I blame the offense for a majority of this one. I know TO was open, but if the offense scored one more TD in the first half, this game is a blowout, IMO.

It just goes back to Vermeil's killer instinct. He has none. I'd love to ship his ass out. There is also no reason that Holmes should have come out after the way he played in the first quarter.

The fact that the Chiefs scored 17 points in one quarter and lost makes me really ill.

Good point there about Holmes. I dont understand why the Chiefs all of a sudden stopped using him in the 3rd quarter? Didn't make any sense. You gotta go with whats working. They broke something that was working. I blame the offensive coaching staff, and Vermeil on that. At least, if they used Holmes more in the 2nd half, they could slowed down the Eagles momentum, and control the game in their pace, favour.
