NOT THIS YEAR

Busch Stadium is our house.

So I will not waste your time this morning talking about the importance of the Cardinals protecting our house in Game 6 of the NLCS. I will not broach the obscentity of seeing Houston players spilling champagne on our living-room carpet.

Busch Stadium is our house.

It's where many of us watched our first game, caught our first foul ball, begged for our first autograph.

It's where Gibby ruled the mound, where Brock ran like the wind, and where Ozzie made all the folks go crazy.

It's where the El Birdos dominated, where Sutter struck out the last batter of 1982, where Mike Shannon has worked since the joint opened in 1966.

The Ol' Redhead managed there. Stan the Man played his harmonica there. The White Rat led us back to glory there.

This is where Gussie drove the Clydesdales, where Willie McGee tracked down fly balls, where Joaquin Andujar summed up his philosophy of life in one simple word: Youneverknow.

This is where Big Mac smacked No. 70, where Tommy Lawless flipped his bat, where GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY...BRUMMER'S STEALING HOME!!!!!!!

Here is where Prince Albert rules.

This is where the St. Louis baseball team in performs. They have the best home-record, the best record in baseball. Right on that field.

Ted Simmons played there. Kenny Boyer managed there. And a beloved old man in a bright red jacket told a mournful nation why it was good and right to play baseball after Sept. 11.

My friends, Jack Buck's coffin rested on that field. Daryl Kile pitched his last game there. And many of us cannot walk into that stadium without thinking of loved ones who are no longer with us.

Not this series.

We don't lose here.

Not against the Houston Astros. Not against a pitcher named Roy Oswalt. Not against a wild-card team.

Not in Busch Stadium.

It is our house.

This is simply the place where our memories congregate, where our baseball dreams are stored, where the voices of millions of fans and the ghosts of seasons past await their call to arms.

Folks, it's time to wake 'em up.

This is the year.

Eh... not going to be easy. If they pull that comeback off they deserve to win it all. I dont see it but should be a good WS either way.

Nice. Let's hope it plays out like last year (minus getting swept in the World Series, of course).

We'll see what happens. Personally I hope the STROS go in there and start the demolition early.

Same as always. Owner needs more suite money to compete. But most fans are very happy with the new stadium. It's old school style. Keeps the same name. The new one:

That stadium? You gotta be joking. It's much better than it used to be. When I was a kid it wasn't a great place to watch a game. Definitely more suited for football. Back then I didn't really care though.

Saw my first NL game there. 1972. Cards vs the WC Pittsburgh Pirates.

Got Steve Carlton and Denny Doyle autographs there in 1974. Cards vs Phillies.

My Mom and Dad saw the 7th game of the 68 WS there. Tigers over Cards with Gibson on the mound.

The last thing I would call Busch Stadium is gorgeous.

They did a great job with it for one of those cookie-cutter stadiums, but gorgeous is not the word I'd use for it. A true baseball stadium has seats that run right along the foul lines and face either home or 2nd... those cookie cutter stadiums are big circles so the farther you get away from behind home plate the farther you get away from the field, especially in the upper deck.

Three Rivers and Riverfront were monstrosities. Busch was actually fairly adequate, and good by those standards, but still no less cookie cutter.

I want the Cardinals to pull this one out, and face my White Sox in the WS.

The reason for this is;

Hardcore White Sox fans hate the Cubs. This is for the most part a Chicago area only thing.

Hardcore Cubs fans hate the White Sox. Also for the most part a Chicago thing.

Everyone knows about the Cardinals-Cubs rivalry.

A White Sox-Cardinals WS would be a hardcore Cubs fan's worst nightmare because the WS can't end in a tie.

This would be even worse than Bartman. Even the loser could needle a Cubs fan.

True story- A White Sox fan escorted his young son to the men's room at Comiskey Park. When his son was finished, they left without stopping to wash his hands. A Cubs fan saw this and pointed out that "at Wrigley Field, we teach our kids to wash their hands before they leave the bathroom". To which the boy's father replied, "Here at Comiskey, we teach our kids not to piss on their hands".

Stadium was designed as duel purpose for Baseball and Football.

Busch was modified after BigDead football Cards left 1985 to be as baseball friendly as possible.

They did the best they could with what they had to work with IMHO.
