View Full Version : Dividing bars between posts

I can live with the other changes. They're not bad, objectively speaking, even though the freaking orange at the bottom is a tad unsettling. But the red dividing bars between posts just break up threads unnecessarily. If they held information or something, I would dislike them but understand. Here, they're just there to scream out at you, "Look at me, I'm between you and the next post!"

I agree. In fact, I don't really like any of this crap. I don't see the need to go all fisher price.

I don't see the need to go all fisher price.I would agree, but at this point it's kind of like when the makers of an MMO decide to nerf the game to hell. They're not changing their minds on the big stuff, but you at least want to try to convince them that there are some things that could be improved by not being introduced.

it may look nice with the new background color

They said while staring at the moving avatars and gigantic signatures that have nothing to do with the posts.Avatars are in their own fully-contained space. Signatures aren't universal. Both can be ignored, either by ignoring the avatar or blocking signatures. Big red dividing lines are universal and break up every single post. There is no "flow" to any thread if your attention is diverted every time you scroll down.

So you have the avatars and signatures turned off?

I see it worse with a huge picture between every 2nd or 3rd post as opposed to a 1.5 pt line that is continuous and standard. How can you have "flow" when someone has a 275KB pic of a monkey after his post and someone else has an entire moving flashdance sequence after theirs?

If it's red, they better damn well offer another style for those of us who don't like having their eyes hurt when switching from sites with text on red backgrounds to those with less outlandish color schemes.

I do agree that a red background would be a bit much. Hopefully, that's not the plan.

So you have the avatars and signatures turned off?No, I do not. I do, however, adblock sigs that are annoying, and I appreciate avatars because they often give a tiny glimpse into the viewpoint of a person -- again, they're in their own consistent, fully contained, off-to-the-side realm.

How can you have "flow" when someone has a 275KB pic of a monkey after his post and someone else has an entire moving flashdance sequence after theirs? You can turn off sigs, and I've adblocked many. You can ignore avatars. This distraction line is unavoidable.

I don't think there is any thought about changing the bg color of the BB from anything other then white. That's a relief.

Here's my point, in a nutshell:

White-Light Gray-White-Light Gray-White-Light Gray-White-Light Gray
or
White-RED-Light Gray-RED-White-RED-Light Gray-RED-White-RED-Light Gray-RED-White-RED

Which is more seamless?

We had some designs where we did have a leather bg and even a black bg, but I prefer to stay rather clean. The dividers between posts I don't see as great or ugly, just there.

I don't actually mind if you offer "Tech CP," "CP 2005," "Classic CP," "Leather CP," "Seamonkey CP," or whatever. In fact, I'd encourage that. Whenever you change the design of something, giving people options is a great thing.

I just needed to voice my strong disapproval of the thread-breaking distraction lines.

And there is nothing wrong with that. If a bunch of people come out saying they hate it then I'm sure something will be done to remidy it quickly. I don't believe anyone has changed the at-work version at all, that may still be the same.

A bunch of people did chose to put the top red bars in because they liked it.

Besides, we just started our #1 receiver at QB (fifth different starter at QB in seven games, stretching back to the GMAC Bowl) and won by 15 points to improve to 3-3. For a team missing its top two QBs and a third of the rest of the starters due to injury, I'm very happy with how they played, especially JLD's defense. They allowed zero points in the second half.

I have no problem with the changes. Initially I think it's a fresh look. I wouldn't be apposed to light pigskin back ground, although the plain white seems to work nicely. I agree with enforcing the current sig policy.

Wasn't one of the issues that people had with the old Star board was that people were being warned about, and banned for, speaking spanish?
