WASHINGTON -- The man who's been investigating the leak of a CIA officer's identity is preparing to make an announcement about the results of the probe. Special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EDT. Meanwhile, two people close to Karl Rove told The Associated Press that the presidential adviser will not be indicted today. They said investigators have told Rove's office they haven't resolved all their questions about his conduct, and that they'll keep investigating. The grand jury that's been investigating the leak of a covert CIA operative's name is gathered in a Washington courtroom. Rove and vice presidential aide Lewis “Scooter” Libby have been investigated in connection with that leak. Rove, Libby and Vice President Dick Cheney are all at the White House today. White House officials are braced for the possibility that Libby, Cheney's top aide, could be indicted. The grand jury is scheduled to disband today, though a person close to the case said Fitzgerald has indicated he might keep Rove under investigation. Meanwhile, the day has begun for Cheney. He got to work Friday morning more than an hour before his usual arrival time. Libby was seen leaving his home at his normal commuting time. When the investigation began two years ago, a White House spokesman checked with Rove and Libby -- and then assured the public that neither was involved in leaking covert CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity. Fitzgerald has spent nearly two years investigating the leaking of the identity of Plame, wife of an administration critic of prewar intelligence. In addition to false statements, prosecutors have also considered other charges such as mishandling classified information, obstruction of justice or illegally disclosing the identity of a covert intelligence agent.
