Bruschi is AFC defensive player of the week

November 2, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- New England's Tedy Bruschi, returning to the lineup eight months after a stroke, is the AFC's defensive player of the week.

Bruschi had 10 tackles Sunday in the Patriots' 21-16 win over Buffalo. He played nearly full-time in his first game since the Super Bowl.

Other AFC players honored were Denver quarterback Jake Plummer (offense) and Houston's Jerome Mathis (special teams).

The NFC players of the week were Tiki Barber of the New York Giants (offense); Charles Tillman of Chicago (defense) and Joe Nedney of San Francisco (special teams).

If it wasn't for the 10 tackles, I would say this is a media story.

10 tackles can be very deserving in a game.

Now it's rolled into one.........

On his way to accept the award, Bruschi defeated and captured Osama Bin Laden. He wasn't in Iraq.

That is actually pretty impressive for the amount of time he has missed.

He played pretty well. Obviously this is a show of respect. The guy does deserve some respect.

Obviously ESPN's made up stat "hits" which he had about 596 of according to them. Really pushed him over the top.......

They had given him the award before he even played.

I saw the entire game. He played fine, but didn't do anything spectacular.

Rename the award "comeback player of the week" and he certainly deserves it. Defensive player of the week....not so much.

I'd say even Bruschi is rolling his eyes at this. Especially when his offensive counterpart is Joke Plummer. That kinda takes the pi$$ out of an award, doesn't it?

Bruschi's official stats 2 tackles 5 assists........that's all.

What a joke, DJ has 8-10 tackles almost every game. Zach Thomas averages 12 tackles a game, Good God thats a joke. Man that makes me so f**king angry. I guess maybe its because he saved an entire litter of puppies and is some sort of mythical creature, half man half god. I dont know but it pisses me off.

Wow...you're right. I dont' get it. How can they just make up stats when giving this award?

Stuff like this really cheapens the award for those who earn it legitimately. I know that he played a good game having not played for a year, but this is just over the top.

(Can you tell I'm bitter?)

Seriously, everyone knows what this is about. You guys need to relax. As far as I know, the reward doesn't come with a $1M check ro anything...

ESPN was giving him BS tackles. He didn't play all that well. The fact that he's AFC DPOW is a joke.

He tackled all ten players in one play. I thought that was pretty impressive.

The most requested song on the radio in Boston this week is a tie...between Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." Not surprisingly, all requests have been dedicated to Tedy Bruschi.

Ok...Time to talk about Pats again.
The media is oh so easy to predict.

Wonder why no one takes them seriously sports or otherwise.

I haven't taken then seriously since that well-documented tea party.
