View Full Version : Prayer request...

I couldn't sleep so I'm going to get my ass into work this morning...

As some of you may know my father died four years ago this September leaving not only myself and other adult siblings but an eight year old little brother. Needless to say he's now 12 and has had a real hard time with his death displaying a lot of anger, not doing well in school, consistently screwing off in school and of coarse the little white lies.

We (my wife and I) had him over for a week or so why my mother was out of town and he complained about head aches and twice he wanted to come home from school....A little trick he played way to often. Needless to say when mother came home he went home sick from school again and remained there for the rest of the week. I figured if he's really sick he should go the doctor and after missing about a week school I convinced my mother to take him in for blood work...

Well he went yesterday only to find he has leukemia and will undergo a bone marrow biopsy this morning to determine what kind it is…

The doctor’s say he has an 80% chance of full recovery but thought he could use all the help he can get today….

~still a numb~

I'm really sorry to hear that bro. My family will pray for yours.

When I was a child a doctor diagnosed me with leukemia. My parents got further testing done and no one could find a trace of it. It can be misdiagnosed and, if he does have it, it can be treated effectively...and prayer works.

I also have a friend in St. Louis who had/has a very aggressive form of it and, while the treatment was difficult, he's now living normally and happily in full remission.

Hang in there!

Continue prayers? You bet!

While it is pretty awful to here about disease in any age, it is especially distressing when it happens to a kid.

Hang in there. Good luck to little bro.

My prayers are with you and your family. My father was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and he's doing wonderful. Great doctors, great medicine, tons of love from his family and a whole lot of prayers to God.

Stay strong.

Rough story there, prayers for your little brother and family.

His little brother's name is "Guy" for those of you wanting to put a name with the boy.

11-08-2005, 09:07 PM

My deepest sympathy and hope he has a quick and full recovery. I wanted to add that illness untreated as I found out can lead to behavior that is not characteristic, perhaps part of Guy's acting up is related. Just a thought.

11-08-2005, 10:23 PM
Will do...

11-09-2005, 12:34 AM

Many prayers sent your way. There's lots of good pediatric heme/onc docs out there. Hope you all find a decent one. If not, keep trying. It's worth the effort.

Prayers on the way.

Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia -

Bone marrow came back at 95% but 0 in his spinal tap and blood. I guess they caught it somewhat early BUT as we have found his age does not work in his favor. The doctor is part of another group that is working on new treatments that may or may not benefit the outcome vs. traditional treatment.

Basically we have to choose between the two treatments by this afternoon so I am going to pull a few strings as Phil suggested and get some kind of second opinion.

I guess what sucks about the whole thing is we went from a diagnosis of 100% treatable to 60 to 80%. The little bro is in for a rough ride either way......

~Thank you for the prayers...It really means allot to me~

Ouch. We were hoping for better news. Hang in there. You're in a better position to get through this than most people in the same situation.
