Well maybe this is a good thing, Priest hasn't been running like Priest all year, i know you can blame the line for some of it, but Larry was getting it done better. I like Larry's downhill attack better then dancing all over the place. Larry is getting what he asked for so he better do all he can do and get out of his diapers!

It's not a good thing. Priest is still a valuable player. I think LJ deserved the majority of the carries, and that stupid 2-for-1 rotation that was chiseled in stone, regardless of game situations, was moronic. But no way do I want Priest out of the way. I'd love to have him as a quasi-backup and red-zone monster.

With this news now its time for LJ to show up and put this team on his shoulders. He wants to be the best, now he has his chance. It's all about taking advantage of a situation. It sucks that Holmes is out but I was a fan of LJ back at Penn State. Time to show why he was a first round draft pick.

STORM BREWING BETWEEN HOLMES, CHIEFS?

With rumors and reports now rampant regarding the future of Chiefs running back Priest Holmes, we've confirmed that there is indeed a very real question as to whether Holmes will ever play again, even as the team dismisses the notion that Priest might be done.

Based on what we're hearing, we also think that the situation could get very ugly, very quickly.

The organization believes that there's nothing wrong with Holmes' back, and that his absence traces to a head injury suffered at San Diego. Still, the specialist Holmes saw on Friday isn't a neurologist, but a back and neck guy.

Despite what the team is saying, we hear that Holmes is telling teammates that he won't play again this year, and we're also told that the organization quietly is preparing for life without him.

If Holmes retires, look for the team to try to recover a big chunk of the $10.1 signing/option bonus he received in connection with a 2003 contract extension, which ties him to the Chiefs through 2009. His better course of action, in our view, would be to obtain medical certification regarding his inability to play if, as reported, he has a lump on his spine that could lead to serious injury.

Things will get interesting, of course, if the Chiefs' doctors say he's fit play and Holmes' own physicians conclude otherwise.

And there's a twist that could make the situation even more problematic for all parties. Holmes, we hear, blames his current health condition on coach Dick Vermeil's relentless approach to practices, which is burning Holmes out.

So, in the end, Holmes could walk away not because of any health concern, but simply because he's had enough of Dickie Ball.

Stay tuned.

I still have yet to see any OFFICIAL announcement, from the Chiefs or Priest himself, announcing retirement or placement on IR.

I'm not saying it's not true, I'd just like to see an official announcement somewhere.

This is all Grandpa's fault.

Wouldn't it be nice if Priest had been the backup all year and not gotten hurt.

Chiefs running back Priest Holmes is not retiring, but he won't play football again this season.

Sources have told FOXSports.com hat the team will place Holmes on injured reserve later Wednesday, ending his season as a result of a bruise in his spinal canal. The team signed former Panthers running back Dee Brown to help fill the void and also worked out former Broncos running back Quentin Griffin. Denver also has practice squad running back McKenzi Smith to possibly promote. There was a report that Holmes would retire as early as Wednesday, but team officials insist that notion is false. Instead, team doctors will re-evaluate Holmes in 30 days and take a plan of attack after that.

Other possibilties exist too. For instance, Holmes may wish to get a sex change in the off-season and return to the Chiefs as a woman. League sources say that would open up a can of worms and things could get very ugly, with Priest suing the NFL and Congress stepping in with legislation, igniting a brusing partisan fight that could bring down the Bush administration.

Also, our sources indicate astronomers are very concerned about a large object hurtling towards earth. If it strikes in the Western Hemisphere in the next 12 months, it could severely damage Holmes' comeback attempt. Especially if it sparks a greenhouse effect. Chiefs President Carl Peterson is well-known skeptic of the greenhouse effect, and he may not accept Holmes' excuse that reduced sunlight, acid rain and diminished plant and animal life makes it hard for him to return to the playing field.

Stay tuned.

They will probably announce it at the presser and post it later. I would say they are pretty busy. Big issues still remain.

Does Priest get to keep the rest of the $10 million?

What to do about a backup to LJ?

etc etc
