Brothers and sisters of The Planet,

As we all know by now, Priest is gone for the season. Larry Johnson is now our starting running back.

I was one who was quite skeptical of this draft pick, especially during a time when we had defensive issues that needed addressed. Be that as it may, I knew we had a solid backup should Priest be unable to start.

Has Larry Johnson been the best back this organization has ever seen?

No. Not yet.

Has he been exemplary with his conduct, be it on or off the field?

Again, no.

We have been spoiled to death with Priest in the back field. His conduct is almost angelic, sans one incident where money was an issue. That was quickly resolved and we moved along. Sure, we found out later that he likes nachos but hey, who doesn't?

We never worry about Priest coughing up the ball. We never worry about his off the field antics. We never wonder if he's going to shoot off his mouth when a microphone is shoved in his face. We never worry about the man giving less than 100% each and every play. Let's face it, we have been spoiled to the Nth degree by this man.

Larry Johnson has had some issues on and off the field during his time here. Some of his own doing. Some at the hands of others. Perhaps what he needed was a chance to prove himself for those other distractions to vanish. Well, now he has that chance.

I ask us now to set all of that aside.

I ask us not to make comparisons between the two backs. I ask us not to speak disparagingly of either in any manner. I ask us not to bicker about which is the better running. back. Instead, I ask us all to unite in support of our new starting running back.

Let us unite in support of Larry Johnson. The rock has been placed squarely in his hands for the rest of the season.

God's speed L.J. You are going in my sig this week.

Priest is the best back this organization has ever seen, and while the rest of the year belongs to LJ, I still hope for a healthy Priest to return in '06.

I have no doubts LJ can and will carry the team the rest of the season, but he has already stated he doesn't want to be a part of this organization in the future. He's just auditioning for his next team.

This thread is pretty far OT now, but ill give an Amen Brother to that.

I love posting on the Chiefs boards, but the upcoming LJ vs. Priest threads will have me dry heaving.

I personally am still pissed about Priest being out for the year, but I think its going to reverse the dangerous shift I have seen over the last several weeks. Where our offense continues to struggle to find consistency, and the pressure shifts to our improving but has a ways to go defense. if that continues to happen we wont have a shot at getting into the playoffs.

With LJ running full time, and this O-line and team behind him. We just might find some much needed consistency and a new identity starting this Sunday. /homer post
