I'm curious to hear what you guys think, as many of you are much more football-knowledgable than me.

My impression is that Derrick Johnson has been solid, but perhaps not as impactful as I'd hoped he would be at this point. Still, he's definitely shaping up to be a very solid first round pick.

Discuss.

I've been pleased...Would have hoped for a few more big plays but all things considered very pleased.

Dude, the guy is starting as a rookie, and contributing on top of that. I give him 5 stars out of a possible 5. Teams aren't running or throwing at him, and that's just awesome for a starting rookie. He's made some amazing plays, espeically against screens, that lets me know he's something special. He has demonstrated time and time again that he can take on a block when he needs to, but usually he can just play around the block, which not many LBs can do.

I am extremely pleased with DJ so far, I am also pleased and suprised by Mitchell. If Bell would just step up his game we would have a pretty good LB corp.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel, too.

Hes doing exactly what I was hoping he would do, except I am hoping he can pick some passes off and get a few sacks. Unless he does that he wont be DROY.

I would rate him right at... bubblicious.

We should trade him and LJ before they ask for more money.

For a rookie very good....Wonder where his numbers fall for all rookies in position comparison.

Is he still on track for DROY consideration.???

You pretty much said it right there.

He's 26'th in the ligue in tackles, not bad for a rookie, although I thought we would blitz him more.

Teams are throwing and running at him. They are picking on him instead of Bell. DJ is handling it very very well.

Great for a rookie. He will be fabulous in the long run.

I agree with you, Mr. JBucc. I would hope that Gunther would teach him the finer points of the weak side blitz.

You know, Gun has previously said that, when you blitz you HAVE to get to the quarterback. We seem to often whiff (sp?) on many blitzes either as a result of mis-timing or coming out of control and over-running the QB. I believe that, with DJ's combination of quickness, pure speed, and power, he would be an excellent blitzer with Gunther's training. He needs more opportunities, in my opinion.

DJ is performing like I said he would :Pimp:

He's performing upto my expectations. He's made mistakes and a couple big plays. You can see the forced fumbles in him waiting to explode. I would have liked to see a sack or two more but i'd put that down primarily to lack of opportunity.

If the past Chief top picks would have performed anywhere near this, the Chiefs would be dominant. He has done a great job for a rookie and shows he can and will be a lot better.

he's done more than Sims/Siavii/Wilson/'s entire careers combined....I could throw a whole bunch more draft picks in there as well...

Solid, but not yet spectacular.

Tackling machine that needs to work on his pass coverage a bit.

I like what I see.

dj is doing great. his mistakes are typical rookie mistakes. it seems pass coverage, leaving his zone, is his biggest problem. but he has been getting better. i can see more sacks, int`s and forced fumbles soon. maybe not this year but next for sure. what makes him better than alot of our first picks is he dosnt have a mouth on him.

i think DJ is doing fantastic, best start by a rookie in KC for decades.
Surround him w/ some FOOTBALL talent and he will really start to shine.

DJ has looked fast, but Gun just has him standing there. He also looks tenative at times, but that is to be expected.

He has said that SKnight has a big role in him not being totally confused all the time.

He will be a monster in the future, but is not making enough impact (and we aren't good enough)to get DROY.
It'll go to Merriman, Thurman, or someone on a playoff team.

Rookie mistakes. To be expected. LT probably wasn't dominant his first year.

I think DJ should play more weakside pass rusher LB on third downs, because Bell isn't getting it done. He's whiffed on QB sacks like 3 times.

I never said they weren't rookie mistakes, or that they weren't expected.

Just that he's not perfect.
