Former Cowboys receiver Irvin arrested

NFL.com wire reports

PLANO, Texas (Nov. 27, 2005) -- Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop, Plano police said.

Irvin, a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for speeding in Irving after being pulled over Nov. 25 for speeding in Plano, the Plano Police Department said. Police spokesman Mike Johnson said he didn't know what kind of paraphernalia was found.

Irvin paid a fine on the speeding ticket and posted bond on the drug paraphernalia possession charge. He was released about an hour after he was pulled over.

Irvin, a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys, retired in July 2000 and works as a studio analyst for ESPN.

An ESPN spokesman had no immediate comment.

In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges.

Irvin holds Cowboys records for catches (750), receiving yards (11,904) and 100-yard games (47), including a team-record seven in a row in 1991.

He was on the pre-game today on ESPN. Did he immediately leave the studio, catch a flight to Texas, and get arrested, or was he arrested earlier and this is just coming out?

As much as I hated that turd when he played, he really - I can't believe I'm saying this - is a pretty good analyst. I figured he'd be another Irvin/Sanders-type loudmouth idiot, but he isn't.

I have no trouble understanding him at all. He's articulate and well spoken, and a helluva lot brighter than either Esiason or Marino.

I should neg rep myself for being so complimentary of that bastard. :banghead:

We could all neg rep you so you don't have to. :)

Speaking of Esiason, and lack of brilliance, I was listening to MNF on my way home from work this last week, and he kept saying "Some people say how you play 3rd downs aren't important.".

I want to know who the **** are some people, and more importantly, does Esiason really think anyone believed that line of crap?

Chris Berman just mentioned it a few minutes ago during the halftime show. Apparently the incident happened on Friday.

Berman clearly looked uncomfortable reading the report.
