I have an HP printer/scanner/copier that I print with 5 days a week. The color and black cartridges are small And I go through them in just 6-8 weeks time. I was wondering if Planeteers are aware of national stores or online sources where I can buy cartridges for less than say...what wal-mart would charge.

I have a friend who owns a Cartridge World franchise...it's about half price to have them re-filled...

I have purchased off-brand ink cartridges in the past and have regretted it every time.

Now I bite the bullet and buy the manufacturer’s replacement cartridges.

YMMV.

I've bought online for about $10 bucks a cartridge instead of the $25 in stores. Never had an issue.

I never trusted the remanufactured cartridges. An ink cartridge has a printhead on it that is designed to be replaced after its spent, not re-used.

That being said, if I didn't care about quality all that much, I'd use them with black only. Color has three times the amount of nozzles on the head (3 colors) than a black cartridge, and therefore more of a chance for failure.

I hate dealing with purchsing ink cartridges. I have a Dell.... and they aren't available in stores. Everytime I runout I have to wait three days before getting more in the mail.

But thats my problem, as for your problem...check these links out.

I use a Canon printer to print my work orders. (black only). Some work orders are 5 pages and some are 3 pages. I refill my cartridge with a syringe. I recently kept track and I printed 114 work orders with the same cartridge. Between 4-500 pages. Although the heads do have a limited life, that life is much longer than the ink supplied with the cartridge.

You can do that with Canons because Canons do not have the printhead on the cartridge. The printhead is integrated on the printer. Just be sure to do a cleaning cycle every now and then and you should be fine. :)

Dell Printers are Lexmark Printers. What kind of Dell printer do you have? I can tell you what kind of cartridges you can buy in stores.

I've been doing it for three years. Something goes wrong with the cartridge after repeated use. But I fill it at least 3 times. And yes, I use the built in cleaner frequently.

Buy a laser, in the long run you will save money. It cost about 1 cent per page for black and white, and 8 cents for color.

You can get a good color laser for about $350
