Broncos at Chiefs: How tough is the AFC West? The FOXSports.com power rankings (developed by Football Outsiders) list the Broncos as the NFL's second-best team, with the Chargers fourth, the Chiefs seventh, and the last-place Raiders ranked 15th.

That's one tough quartet of teams. A 10-6 record in the AFC West is as impressive as a 12-4 record in some rinky-dink division like the AFC East, and 10-6 may be a tall order for the Chiefs, who travel to Dallas and then the Meadowlands to face the Giants after hosting the Broncos.

No wonder Dick Vermeil has done what men his age often do in December: turned the heat up.

"The pressure is on us," he said. "And with our kind of players that we have here, the pressure is an advantage. It brings the best out of us."

Vermeil needs the pressure to bring out the best in his run defense, which was gouged for 221 yards in Denver's 30-10 win over the Chiefs in Week 3. The Broncos drove for scores in their first three possessions of that game, and the run-oriented Chiefs aren't built for come-from-behind heroics.

"It's going to be a good one, that's all I can promise you," Tony Gonzalez said of Sunday's game. The Chiefs' run defense has improved in recent weeks, and the Arrowhead advantage will keep it close, but the Broncos just seem to be getting better every week.

If the Chiefs upset the Donks, you'll have all the media attention you want.

After essentially saying yesterday that KC was a total patsy and wouldn't win another game this season, Lincoln Kennedy (on NFL Total Access) actually picked us to win this week.

And it's not just the media. sportsbook.com says Denver is still -1.5 and 76% of the bets are for them.

Even when we win big games we are overshadowed by why the other team lost. We could shut the donks out 42-0 and all they would talk about is how Jake messed up, or the field was slippery, etc. We got no credit for the win last week, I know they were hurt but still, we showed up, put pressure on them, and made plays. What did I see on every national station? excuses for the pats and nothing about us, like it was a fluke.

Exactly.

It makes the AFCW a three horse race...

When you have the toughest division in the NFL, it's hard not to root for the other teams in it, even though the Chiefs may not be in the playoffs.

Let's just hope that the Chiefs make the playoffs!!!

It is a rare occassion (! in a 100) that someone doesn't win in a football game. Most teams are pretty close in talent and the difference in a game is usually luck and making the most of those times luck is forded you. So it is important to remember that 14 to 16 teams win each week. And surprisingly there is a SB champion every year. It is a forced conclusion. There is going to be a winner.

I had hopes at the beginning of the season we would be a dominant team. But injuries to Sims, Roaf and lack of a consistent RT doomed that possibility. So we are left with being a good team in a great division. We have to have those lucky events to come in droves here on out to get to the playoffs.

With all the talent returning to both sides of the lines though there is a glimmer of hope that dominant play will emerge. In that case . . . well see.

It took me a long time to pull all of the stats together and do the analysis, but the amazing thing to me is that over the 85 year history of the league, if you combine every team from every year, they all averaged exactly a .500 record. Amazing.
