and the Democratic party...

I've had it.... I have been a strong follower of George W. Bush, the Republican Senate and House but I am sick of what the people I stand up for do everyday. I spout the talking points like they were my own, I defend them with a passion.... but what is happening in Washington right now is WRONG...

1. Federal Spending..... Republicans have touted "A smaller govt is a better govt" for years but Bush is spending more then LBJ.... I don't care if we are dealing with the war on terror... raise the taxes or cut speniding.... the deficits are out of contorl

2. Health Care..... A MESS.... It costs a 100 dollars cash just to have priledge to speak to a doctor.... I'm blessed my family has healthcare.... what about the people that make 10 bucks an hour?

3. SS Reform.... My generation needs change... raising the age and raising the taxes are not acceptable changes for me... I love the Bush plan..... This needs to get passed

4. Did you know Congress is going to hold hearings on the BCS Football rankings? This is the very lowest of priorities that I have that need to be adressed. Find ways to make our schools better, finance development of hydrogen... do somthing important

4. Scandals.... Bribes, laundering, leaking.... all of this is wrong... right now Repubs are caught.... but don't tell me that Dems are perfect..... all politicans in DC are crooked and need to be caught

5. Pension Reform...... Millions and millions of Americans need this legislation plassed... If you were promised somthing 30 years ago you should get it today

6. Illegal Immigration.... I dont care if we use land mines... military..... anything should be used to combat this on BOTH borders..... A giant Electiric Fence 30 feet deep and 50 feet tall should be constructed on BOTH boarders....

7. Trade Deficits are out of control... Japan is taking advantage of currency differences and companies like Toyota are making way more money then companies like GM can

This is just the begining of what I'm mad about.....

I still strongly support the President with Iraq and war on Terror but I am loosing all faith in his domestic agenda

The economy is strong and he should be rewarded for that but there is still so many quesitons with what the future brings when so many sectors face bleak futures like autos, air and steel...... Oil is uncertain and anyday could bring another 9/11 where the stocks fall all over again

I would never vote for most Democrats due to their stance on the War on terror... I truly believe they are clueless......... I think they are just as responsible for our domestic problems because they have not introduced any thing that would make these problems go away either

I belive every politican in DC right now should be fired and replaced both Republican and Democrat..... They can't get anything done becuase they hate eachother so much.... DC is disgusting right now on both sides of the isle...... This country needs a revolt where new politicans that actually care about the people not corportations or lobbying groups are elected

ahh enough for now.... this country could be so much better if our politicans spent more time working together then fighting eachother constantly

3. SS reform... Bush's plan is incredibly bad. it would weaken SS and free the federal government from liability. Why couldn't (shouldn't) they raise the cap on payroll taxes? as long as those taxes remain proportionate to a retirees benefits; that is as close to fair as we can get.

I disagree.... it would make MY money grow faster... SS right now is a terrible investment......I'm young right now, if that plan was inacted my SS would be much higher..... If I die young my kids get it.... there were so many more positives then negatives....... Politicans were gutless to make change and the American people are to stupid to realize that the only solution 30 years from now is to cut beneftis and raise taxes... this needs to be addressed now

I want some change, it's selfish of me but my own families pension/ 401k is on the line.... I don't want my dad, a man who has worked his a$$ off for GM for 35 years to get somthing when he retires.....It's not just not fair and this to be changed.....

If GM goes bankrupt and the pensions get switched over to the federal govt I think that max is 24000 a month........ thats nothing to what he should be getting

I'm sick of all the fighting...... work has to be done to get our country together again..... the polarization in this coutnry is the worst its ever been

I assume you put one too many zeros on that monthly pension amount. I would happily take 24K a month, that is $288K a year, that is fairly healthy for retirement.

Less spending
PRA's
Secure the borders

...I think there are too many centrist Republicans in office to make a real push at any of these.

What does "as long as those taxes remain proportionate to a retiree's benefits" mean?

BTW, I think Bush's "plan" was an incredibly good vision but it can't reasonably be called a plan. And it didn't weaken SS, SS is already weak under it's own weight.

Democrats and Republicans unable to agree on plan to shore up system

House abandons pension bill

By JIM ABRAMS

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The House is scrapping plans to act on legislation to shore up the financially troubled employer-based pension system, a Republican leader said Tuesday.

Acting Majority Leader Roy Blunt, a Missouri Republican, said there was “no likelihood” that the House would vote in the waning days of this congressional session on a bill to overhaul traditional defined-benefit pension plans.

The Senate last month, on a 97-2 vote, approved its version of the legislation, which would tighten rules for companies that underfund their pension funds and strengthen the financial viability of the federal agency that insures pension plans for about 44 million Americans.

Blunt and Democratic leaders blamed each other for the failure to move on the pension issue.

There is no time to act on pensions unless “some Democrats step forward and say they want to be part of that pension solution,” Blunt said at a news conference. “It hasn’t happened yet.”

House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland said, “Again, we have another demonstration of a refusal of the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to work with others to come to consensus on a problem that we must solve.”

He said the Democratic leadership would urge its members to vote against the House bill, which came out of the Education and Workforce Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.

Kevin Smith, a spokesman for Republican John Boehner, chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, said Boehner “and others continue to build and maintain a broad range of support for passing the Pension Protection Act among both employers and unions. We stand ready to debate and pass this bill whenever the leadership decides to schedule a vote. Congress has a responsibility to address this pension crisis.”

The top Democrat on the committee, George Miller of California, said he didn’t support the bill because two independent agencies had found that it would worsen the pension crisis. He said the failure to come up with a better bill would mean that more companies would underfund their plans or seek to dump them on the federal government.

The bill would tighten rules to stop companies from underfunding their plans — a shortfall estimated at $450 billion — and raise the premiums that companies must pay to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp.

The pension agency, which operates on those premiums, recently estimated that it has a deficit of about $22 billion.

The corporation was running a surplus through 2001, but its bottom line has taken a sharp turn for the worse, with a rash of bankruptcies among large companies in recent years.

Verizon Communications Inc. announced Monday that it would stop contributing to pension plans for managers in an attempt to save about $3 billion over the next 10 years.

Those employees will retain pension benefits they have already earned, the company said, and on June 30, 2006, they will receive an 18-month enhancement to the value of their pension and retiree medical benefits. Verizon did not specify how many employees were affected, but The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal said the restructuring involved 50,000 managers.

Verizon said it would increase matching dollars for its 401(k) plan for those employees, as well as for MCI managers who join Verizon after Verizon’s purchase of MCI Inc.

Neither Verizon Wireless nor MCI management employees currently have pension or retiree medical benefits.

The changes will not affect current retirees. Management employees hired after Jan. 1, 2006, will not earn pension benefits.

The corporate abuse of the pension system and in particular the PBGC is not really the Republicans (or Democrats) fault. Rather, companies are doing nothing unexpected, really, to try to avoid huge ongoing legacy liabilities.

The old pension system, which was great when it worked, is basically an out of date concept. Within 50 years, I'd bet that no company in American will offer what the big manufacturing giants all had in the 50s, 60s, etc.

"Progress", or whatever you want to call it -- the companies just can't compete internationally with the albatross around their necks.

Dont get me wrong, i'm still a lot more proud of the Republican party then the Dems...... I'm just frusterated that we have a complete majority and nothing is getting done except arguing over Iraq.... The people in this country deserves more..... I think the Republicans need new congressional leadership
