Not that I really care, nor do you, about the Titans problems, but they are an AFC team. Anyway, you'd figure after the purgings of the last two years, they'd be all set going forward. Well, maybe, but some serious restructuring needs to happen:

"Per a league source, the biggest chunk of that number arises from the contract of quarterback Steve McNair. Currently, he has a cap figure for next season of more than $27.8 million. If he retires or if he works out a new deal, that number most likely will plummet.

Other guys with big cap numbers in Tennessee for 2006 are OL Brad Hopkins ($11.1 million), OL Benjii Olson ($9 million), LB Keith Bulluck ($7.1 million), LB Peter Sirmon ($6.2 million), and WR Drew Bennett ($3.5 million)."

Seriously, who the hell are Brad Hopkins and Benji Olson that they deserve a combined $20MM on the cap?!?!?!

And $28MM for McNair? Holy Cripes, WTF is going on down there...

I've never seen an organization so deep in cap hell.

Per nflpa.org, McNair got a base this year of $765,000, and his base for the following years are $9m, $11m, $13m and $15m.

Buh-bye.

On another note, I still can't see how his cap number could be $28m for next year. That means $19m of pro-rated SB and other roster bonuses etc? Seems impossible.

That sucks for them. I know they are a competitor and all, but I remember how good that team was from 99-03.

No idea. Maybe his LBTEs are through the roof, intentionally designed to force a restructuring? I dunno.

I do know that he seems to be a shell of the guy that co-won the NFL MVP in '03. Hard to say how much it's him and how much it's the rest of his team, though.

McNair needs to hang them up while he can still walk anyway.
