Check out their top draft picks the last ten years (starters in bold):

2005:
1) Marlin Jackson 2) Kelvin Hayden
2004:
1) none 2) Bob Sanders
2003:
1) Dallas Clark 2) Mike Doss
2002:
1) Dwight Freeney 2) Larry Triplett
2001:
1) Reggie Wayne 2) Idrees Brashir
2000:
1) Rob Morris 2) Marcus Washington (starts for Redskins)
1999:
1) Edgerrin James 2) Mike Peterson (starts for Jags)
1998:
1) Peyton Manning 2) Jerome Pathon
1997:
1) Tarik Glenn 2) Adam Meadows
1996:
1) Marvin Harrison 2) Dedric Mathis

Nearly half of their starters are top draft picks. To top it off most are Pro-Bowlers. Sure they've had top picks a lot of the time, but that's a heck of a draft record.

Looks like they draft pretty good.

If these guys had been able to hold onto Mike Peterson and Marcus Washington, their defense would be better than their offense right now.

They've built their entire team through the draft. They don't have a lot of big FA's. Stokley and Corey Simon is pretty much it. They've also done a great job in later rounds and with undrafted FA's, getting guys like Robert Mathis and Cato June. Go look through their starters and key players sometime... it'll make you sick. All kinds of late round picks and people they picked up off of the heap like Lilja and Vanderjagt...

That's because they wouldn't be able to afford their offense.

Cato June and Gary Brackett are pretty good and play that system well. Really fast.

I wonder what would have happened if Indy drafts Ryan Leaf and SD drafts Manning back in 97?? Things to ponder.....
