View Full Version : Where is Priest?

Why aren't we seeing him on the sidelines supporting his teammates? Several people on this board wanted to be loyal to him and keep a much superior LJ on the bench. I didn't even see anything of him in Dallas and he lives in Texas.

Priest will just retire. He knows he can't compete with LJ and probably doesn't have the will or the heart to try.

I agree, actually. Priest has never been about anybody but himself, and that's fine, especially since he's never tried to make others think otherwise. He's done great things for this organization, and if he wants to sit back at home eating his nachos and what not while his teammates are trying to lock up a playoff spot, so be it. But I hope he isn't looking for fans to be on his starting-running back bandwagon when next season rolls around, if he decides to return--which he might, just for his own numbers and his own money.

Like I said, that's all fine and dandy with me. I'll cheer him on if he does comeback, taking his token three carries a game.

I'm not about to start questioning the heart or will of Priest Holmes. After all he's done here, I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt. Not saying LJ isn't a better runner, but I think Priest doesn't want to be so quickly forgotten and I'm not about to forget the fact that, in his four years here he has been a class act & premier NFL back.

I hope that LJ has one tenth the class that Priest has, but so far he hasn't shown it.
Publicly pouting and saying you want out of here, is worse in my book than not being present at an away game. I don't know if Priest was back in KC for the Denver game or not, but it's pretty common for injured players to not make a road trip.

I think he said he would we glad to share more of the carries with Larry. I think he might have even went as far as to say he'd take a role like Faulk has with the Rams. In the Broncos game wouldn't it ahve been nice to have Holmes come off the sideline instead of Dee Brown. IMO with the roles reversed between Johnson and Holmes we'll be a better O then we are right now.

In case you people have been living under a rock, Priest was being evaluated by specialists. As it turns out, he said today that never had the alleged spinal canal injury he was first diagnosed with. It was a Misdiagnosis.

He also said he has to stay off the sidelines because he wants to play so badly that it damn near kills him so he cannot bear to sit on the sidelines during a game. he said the team deserves the camera time and if he was on the sidelines, they would show him sitting there and start talking about him being on IR. He said he would rather the announcers fill that time by talking about the Chiefs instead of talking about him.

He goes to all the meeting and he, T-Rich and LJ all talk about about the upcoming games and he helps them game plan.

Tough and tricky question. If LJ ends up at say 1500-1600 yards-how can you put that kind of talent on the bench and let him pout again? On the other hand, I still, think PH has a few years left and it would suck to see him-say in a Raider uniform or on any other team. I like PH a lot better, but LJ has been the best back in the league even though he can't block worth a shit.

DV always said a starter can't lose his place from an injury, so it should be exciting, it wouldn't surprise me if they split time.

To be fair, the Oline has been awesome lately for LJ.

Yeah, I don't think he'll get his job back, either. We'll see though. If he wants to go somewhere else, I wouldn't blame him, but I could see him staying here and helping LJ out. I really don't think he's lost as much ability as people think he has, some of the best plays he's ever made in a Chiefs uniform were this year... like that long screen for a TD against Washington. It's just almost too much to have two guys as talented as they are, we're not really doing either justice.

You think he's bitter towards Baltimore?

I think Priest understands the various situations in the business of football at this point.

Would I want to face him? Heck no. Do I think he should sit on our bench, letting what might be the last couple years he could put his talent to full use waste just to prevent it? No. As a Chiefs fan Priest has done nothing but good for me. He's done great things on this team, and given me lots of happy Sundays. I have no desire to punish him for that.

Okay heres what I know as of right now.

Priest went to 3 specialists and they all told him the same thing. You are risking permanent paralysis if you play football ever again.

These were some of the best Doctors in the USA and they all had the same opinion. Thats why he was placed on IR. No chance of playing this year. Or for that matter ever again. He tells his treammates in private that he's done playing football.

He goes out to Calfornia and sees another DR and now he was misdignosed by the other 3 Dr.'s. The best ones in the U.S.? Says he could play in two weeks.

This smells fishy and something ain't right.

I will probably see my contact at the SD game. If he knows something by then I'll let you guys know.

Look, I love Priest. But he doesn't deserve to be the starter.

#1 He can't take it. He's finished 3 of the last 4 seasons on IR.

#2 He's clearly not the best back on the football team. He's just not.

Priest DOES deserve to be the third-down back. He's a better blocker. He's a better receiver.

The best thing for this team is for Priest to take on the Marshall Faulk role. Priest can run the ball when LJ needs a breather, which keeps LJ fresh and makes defenses wiggle their T-Rex arms in frustration.

I don't know if Priest is willing to accept that role, and I don't know if Dick Vermeil will let it happen.

I would say Priest is far more likely to get injured than LJ though just because LJ is younger and doesn't have near the wear and tear. I'd like to keep Priest around though... and I liked having him share part of the load, and I still do, because you just knew once LJ got the load, we were going to abuse him. And now we're doing just that... and probably wasting his best years in the process. Usually can't run backs like we've done LJ for more than a couple-three years.

These next 3 years are LJ's best. Anything after that... gravy.*

* That's my opinion. I have no statistical evidence to back it up.

Happens all the time.

You could find it. I did the numbers on that a couple weeks ago. We're running LJ right now like the Broncos did Terrell Davis, and the Falcons did Jamal Anderson, etc, etc. I'm not sure what it is now but the pace LJ was getting the ball would be like 500 touches in a 16 game season, which would annihilate any records by a wide margin.

Not all backs go downhill after being abused for about 3 seasons, but a lot of them do... Anderson, Davis, Eddie George, Jamal Lewis, etc, etc.... the ones that don't are the Walter Paytons, Barry Sanders, etc... if we have someone like that then we're really, really lucky. Only time will tell.

LJ in the same breath as Payton and Sanders? They are completely different runners. That would be a Big if.

LJ is more of a skinny version of the bus.

Since LJ has become the starter, at the rate he's carrying the ball, if you projected that out to a full season, he'd have almost 460 carries. The modern NFL record is 410. Only 4 guys have ever broken 400.

That doesn't even include receptions, you throw that in and LJ would be on pace for almost 510 touches a season.

I'm 60 years old and have been watching Pro Football for 48 years. Willie Galimore was my favorite player when I was a kid. He was a RB and kick returner for the Bears. We only got the Bears in 1957 because there was no Dallas Cowboys or Kansas City Chiefs back then. And I have seen hundreds of injured players on their team's sidelines cheering them on. Many of them on crutches. That Priest doesn't show up because he might take 20 seconds of camera time away from the team is TOTAL Bullshit. All of you Priest loyalists, and you know who you are JSP, TK13 and to a lesser extent StevieRay should be ashamed of yourself. JSP even went so far as to say I was just too old to listen to reason. JSP seems to have repented but TK13 is just as dumb as he ever was and continues to try to downplay LJ's play. At any rate I say I win and you lose. Let that be a lesson to you young whippersnappers. You're going to be old one day and you will chastise the ignorant young kids just as I am doing right now. Remember, you have to be 35 years old to run for President. There is a reason for that. And Eisenhower and Halsey were 60 while running WWII. Young punks aren't allowed to run anything that is very important. Remember that!!!

Since I'm the oldest active member of this board I not going to have anybody supporting me. Nor do I need it. I'm sure all the young punks derided their superior officers during WWII. I know they did. Admiral "Bull" Halsey once made a mistake and found himself running his fleet between two Jap fleets and he managed to damage neither one. So he got the hell out of there to avoid being crushed. The young punks called it "Bulls Run". But the fact remains that punks under 40 are allowed to run nothing of great importance like saving this nation from domination by the Krauts or the Japs. Nope, if you weren't 40, you were basically put in the line of fire. And today you punks will support those same peoples that tried to take us over. You buy their products and talk about how they give you more "bang for the buck". So my generation put their lives on the line and many got killed so you punks could get more "bang for your buck". You make me sick. I won't be here to see it but I hope all you pricks pay for that and I'm sure you will. I've been to Japan. Have you? Those people won't stop until they own us. If Priest is guaranteed the starting running back spot, he will be back.

Otherwise, he will retire.

And if this happens, LJ will never re-sign here once his contract is up.

He basically said today on Sirius that there's no way he will go back to being a backup.

I don't want a messy off-season. Let Holmes retire, if he wants to come back, wait till June 1st and cut him. LJ is too fragile of an ego to screw around with.

Holmes coming back does not make this team better.
