3rd Quarter about to start...

Lafayette, Louisiana; 8 PM ET; ESPN

Tonight’s game between Southern Mississippi and Arkansas State may not be one of college footballs’ marquee bowl match-ups, however, the game at least features what may one of the better one-on-one duels with ASU RB Antonio Warren (#42, 5-10, 205) trying to run the ball against Southern Miss MLB Kevis Coley (#45, 6-1, 228). Warren led ASU to this year’s New Orleans Bowl by rushing for 1,046 yards and six touchdowns in nine games, while the very active Coley ranked fourth nationally with 145 tackles, including 13 for loss and 5 sacks. As productive as Warren has been for Arkansas State, though, backup RB Shermar Bracey (#23, 6-2, 225) may actually be the better pro prospect. Bracey is bigger, faster – he reportedly has sub-4.4 speed – and he out-gained Warren this fall 7.1 yards per carry versus 6.3. Meanwhile, USM’s Coley will get plenty of help from a familiar source: FS Trevis Coley (#18, 6-1, 220), his twin brother, who had 99 tackles of his own this season, along with 2 picks.

Both team’s offenses will be led by senior QBs in Dustin Almond (#9, 6-2, 215) of Southern Miss and ASU’s Nick Noce (#8, 6-3, 210); both are athletic players with decent arm strength, although neither is more than a fringe prospect for the 2006 draft. Other veteran players to watch for Arkansas State include DT Myron Anderson (#98, 6-4, 280), CB James Johnson (#80, 5-8, 180), OT Cody Brown (#77, 6-5, 310) and FB Oren O’Neal (#47, 6-0, 245), while USM prospects to keep an eye on include CB John Eubanks (#1, 5-10, 180), DTs Terrance Ford (#95, 6-1, 300) and Tom Johnson (#90, 6-2, 280), DE Akeem Lockett (#50, 6-2, 250), junior OT George Batiste (#70, 6-5, 310), and P Luke Johnson (#17, 6-0, 240). The latter averaged a robust 45 yards per punt this fall and also kicks off.

Well, it's either that, or Colorado vs Nashville on OLN. And since hockey sucks....
