Question about navigating the Planet

So as I come and go to this site, I get into a few of the threads, as I assume most do. But after I click and read the bulk of the thread, I wonder if there is a way to simply click and go to what I haven't read yet. There is an arrowhead next to threads with new posts, which seems to say that this is what it does (go to first unread) but that only seems to work if I am off the planet for at least an hour. If I click on it otherwise, it goes to the same post, no matter if I've read it or not.
Any ideas? Is this the same for everyone?
Is there just something that I'm not doing right?

That is what happens with mine as well. People have brought this up in the past. All I can say is that I "hope" that the upgrade fixes it.
