Not shabby. I know Marty always said their goal was 17.5 a game.

We allowed 18.5 a game at home.

With this offense that should be better than 10-6.

Roaf out for 6 games stunk.

We all wanted an immediate change in the character of the defense, what we've gotten is a gradual reversal of the '98-'03 slide. '04 and '05 began a cycle that hopefully will continue in '06. I think we have the personnel now, and I think the attitude is almost where it needs to be.

I think our run d was much much much improved this year.

This defense is heading in the right direction. I still think we need to replace/add a few more guys in our secondary. I like our linebackers and even our line.

I'm still concerned about our line. They can't generate a whole lot of pass rush on their own.

ooh yeah giving up 20 points is momentus change. Come on, That is horrid if it was around 14 points then we can talk about a good defense.

We need DT's that can get a push in the middle.

Question is, what direction will the defense go next year with DV retiring? The new coach could bring in a new DC that uses a system our players are not suited to. then we have to rebuild it all over again

It's too bad the Bengals took out Carson Palmer and mailed it in. They would have taken Gunther's D apart badly. You could see it on the first drive.

Maybe we can bring in ANOTHER defensive coordinator that uses Kendrell Bell in coverage.

Yes once again we were lucky for the 10th time that another team let us beat them.

what we need most is a more consistent pass rush !!! Not more guys in the secondary. DE is the priority and after that maybe a young S to groom.

ooh yeah giving up 20 points is momentus change.Since KC allowed more than 27 points per game last year, against a weaker schedule, I'd say that 20 is a fairly notable change. But all that really matters now is how they do in '06.

I guess you missed the WIDE OPEN RECEIVERS.

They could have easily converted on their last third down if they had tried instead of just running the ball. I don't know WTF that was about.

In post-game, Jared Allen sounded like Gun was coming back for sure. "Gun has this D going the right way" or something like that?

Did anyone hear that? agree/disagree?

Jared Allen doesn't know shit.

The new coach will decide who stays and who goes.

BTW, Greg Robinson's D allowed approximately the same number of points per game in 2003.

There was a huge difference with Kitna in there. He had guys open, he just couldn't hit them.

We need Dlinemen badly.....Also could we get a coordinator who puts his players in their best position to succeed? Having Surtain play soft zone all year was a waste of his talent.

The bengals 'mistakes' are just Gun's dumb luck.

Only our opponents get credit for what they could've would've or should've done.

I don't even like Gunther Cunningham, but the defense played some inspired football today.

This D was as far from the 2003 D as you can get. We were down in the depths so far under Gnobinson that to be where its at now is a major accomplishment. Last year we kept the same cast, this year we made improvements in the linebacking corps and secondary. Next year we fix the Dline and we should have a strong unit. Next year's goal, get some good young offensive depth and improve the defensive line. We won 10 games and handed a couple away and people are acting like we had nothing.

Obviously you dont watch the games. Our Dline besides Allen is just awful. Everything starts up front in the trenches, anyone who knows anything about football will tell you that. Hicks needs to go, so does Dalton. Browning can stay simply because he's a universal line player who can line up anywhere on the Dline. The 3-4 would solve alot of our problems on defense. Too bad Key Fox can't ever stay healthy.

Where did we finish the season at in terms of rankings for ppg? I know that before this game Cincinatti was at #15 for ppg allowed and they were giving up a little over 21 a game...of course that's gonna go up :)

I think that is more to do with teams passing on us more.. I run defense was hit and miss at best... We have problem tackling and containment.. Good teams exploited that...

We also had a goal line stand against the Cowfags that the NFL refs gave them. Our defense did improve quite a bit, we have some talent on that side of the ball now.

Dalton was penetrating the back-field on almost every snap today. To bad he only shows up every third or fourth game.

Is this sarcasm? If our defense was giving up 14 ppg we would be the #2 scoring defense this season, and the best scoring defense during some years.

GR"s was decent til Maz went down, then it totally Fell apart. Maz if anyonelikes it or not, was the Glue that held that shit together.I stopped trying to debunk that fantasy about 15 months ago. Nobody seems to like facing reality in that discussion for some reason, the reality being that the defense was clearly falling apart before maz went down, and that they sucked against quality teams whether it was maz or mitchell on the field.

And, really, after watching mitchell this year, I don't care if I ever hear maslowski's name again.

I maybe reading this thread wrong but I see a lot of people bitching about a defense that just shutdown Cincinnati to 3pts & the week before only gave San Diego 7pts.

I was extremely disappointed in the performance of the defense vs Dallas & the NY Giants, but it appears they got better the last two weeks(I know a little to late).

If the Chiefs had a pass rush other than Allen, they would be pretty damn good. I happen to like the LB's(other than Bell) & the secondary.

It will be interesint to see what transpires this offseason....

A healthy Sims would help the D-Line. Another solid DE would be nice. Allen to get smarter on the run game and I think the Defense could be solid.

That's nearly 10 points per game less. It's a hell of a good 1 season improvement.

We are positioned well for any coach to do quite well with our talent starting next season.

I'm ok with Herm, I'm great with Fisher, I'm ok with Williams, I'm ok with Saunders.

We will be imporved next year if we can keep Roaf healthy.
