Poor #21. She never got the plays right. Coach told her to go easy on the Messiah, but when a hole opened up in the offensive line she just HAD to take it. They'd been softballing Jesus all afternoon, letting his guards just push them around, giving him DAYS in the pocket. "Play hard enough to let him think we're trying but not hard enough to win," Coach had said before the game. #21 thought it was a little unseemly, turning their weekly game against Northside into an ass kiss session with the Prince of Peace. Jesus was no better. He insisted on not wearing a helmet as if to taunt the defense: go ahead, he seemed to smirk, you really want to hit the son of God? It'd been weeks since Jesus had first shown up, floating down on a ray of light halfway through the 4th quarter. He basically insisted on qb'ing for a few downs, which then turned into the rest of the game. Coach didn't have the heart to bench him. After all, Jesus seemed so elated when the defense purposely missed a tackle and let him run for a touch down even though he had to turn back twice to retrieve his sandals. #21 decided enough was enough. **** fate, **** her chances of getting into heaven. This was a game, a real game, and no matter what kind of divinity shows up you got to come prepared to play. So when the hole opened up in the line, she tightened her fists, accelerated her speed and wrapped her arms low around Jesus' waist, as she'd been taught. The Messiah let out a small cry, half pain, half surprise. The jolt losened his grip on the ball and it squirted out onto the field. Jesus lost his footing and began his descent to the ground. #21 wondered, her face buried in the Messiah's robe, if he would use his godly powers to protect himself or just let his divine body crash into the astro turf.
