I'm not a premium member, so maybe somebody could read it and give us the gist, or if that type of thing is frowned upon I guess you could tap it out in morse code.

Anyway, their big headline right now is that Marty Schottenheimer may be on his way out in SD, and NO, he's not on the Chiefs' radar.

It's speculation on reasons why Marty could get dumped and discussion of possible replacement candidates.

I disagree that Marty is in danger. I don't feel as strongly about it as I do Jeff Fisher, but I don't think the Chargers are going to dump Marty this year.

Here's some free speculation... This thead is going to turn into an Athan bash fest.

If the Eggos were going to fire Marty, wouldn't they have done it by now? Why on earth would they wait?

What if their leading candidate(s) is a coordinator in the playoffs?

So they wait until they can talk before firing what they've got?

So they can have a fallback plan in case their targetted guy leaves them at the alter. Plus it puts them in a better negotiating position.

So they keep Marty on the hook until they find out if they can get who they really want?

I guess that answers my question as well. Seems a bit wrong, but that's life. I won't lose any sleep over it.

That's pretty low-down. Hey Marty we might want you, but only if we can't have this guy. Some faith.

Hell, the SD radio station talks about Marty's status in SD all the time.

It's pretty clear that he and AJ Smith get along even worse than Marty and Carl did.

Marty doesn't care. He'd get paid in either case. Unless he took another coaching job somewhere.

FWIW, I'm just offering a hypothetical. I'm not suggesting this will happen.

Hey Luv, I'm going to have to hang on to my current wife for a while just in case things don't work out between us. You don't mind, do you?

Marty will be back and he will probably be in the playoffs again next year. That is his profile, to quote Vermeil. Make the playoffs one year, face a tougher schedule the next year and have a worse record, then come back the year after that with an easier schedule and make the playoffs again. Worked like that in his last six years here in KC:

1993: 11-5
1994: 9-7
1995: 13-3
1996: 9-7
1997: 13-3
1998: 7-9

It's no more 'low down' than the way in which CP hired DV and kicked Gunther out the door is it?

I don't think you'll find anyone here defending Carl Peterson.

They won't fire Marty. They'd go right back in the tank if they did. I'd say something bad about Nick Athan but I don't want Taco to be right for the first time in his life.

Really. Let's turn it into a Taco bash fest instead.
