Reports out of Big Apple bogus on Edwards to K.C.

http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9144117

Let me make this quick: Kansas City president Carl Peterson is not in New York. He's not negotiating to make a deal for Jets' coach Herman Edwards. And he hasn't asked for permission to speak to Edwards.

In fact, Edwards isn't on the Chiefs' radar. Not yet.

He might if he was out of his contract, and that's what this whole Herman Edwards-to-Kansas City uproar is about. Herman Edwards' contract.

There are indications that Edwards, who has two years left on his deal, wants an extension the Jets aren't willing to grant. That, in turn, forced the Jets to think long and hard about Edwards' future, and everywhere you turn you hear that he may be finished with the club.

I'm not sure what that means. Are the Jets firing him? Are the two sides reaching a settlement? What?

All I know is that there's no end to these stories about Edwards going to Kansas City -- provided, of course, the Jets gain something in return. But they're dealing with the wrong people.

Kansas City surrendered second- and third-round draft picks for Dick Vermeil and a first-rounder for quarterback Trent Green, and they're out of that business. WFAN radio in New York reported Wednesday said that the two sides were negotiating, but sources in Kansas City insisted that wasn't true.

That's not to say that Peterson hasn't spoken to Jets' GM Terry Bradway. In fact, Bradway said the two had a conversation earlier this week but didn't indicate what it was about.

Peterson IS talking, but it's to prospective candidates in other parts of the country. He already spoke with Chiefs' offensive coordinator Al Saunders and now has started to address others on the list -- and, no, Herman Edwards is not one of them.

All I know is that all these reports of the Chiefs pursuing Edwards emanate from New York, not Kansas City -- and it sure looks like the work of a club preparing to move on without its head coach.

Clark Judge is full of shit. How can just about every outlet in NY and the national media be wrong?

That's what I was thinking when this was first posted... I find it hard to believe that EVERY other national / regional / local / journalist / hack is reporting it as an almost done deal.

Too much smoke for there not to be a fire.

But of all the national media reporting this, it seems like every story is citing the same story of "this comes from two NY sources with knowledge of the situation". Are there any that don't refer to that as the basis of the story?

If they're all just repeating the same old thing, the fact that everybody's saying it doesn't cancel out Judge's claim that it's being drummed up by people in NY.

Phobia also claimed a lot of what's been reported today is crap. Well he said they were actually talking, but a lot of the details weren't accurate. We'll see.

Well you never know. I will say there has been rampant speculation about things like this in the past that have proven to be BS. And Clark Judge is normally on the ball, and i think he and Peterson are on good termsbecause he usually has good info regarding KC. Still, it's hard for me to believe there isn't something to these reports and harder yet to believe the claim that he's not even on our radar...

The same thing happened in 2000 after Gunther was fired as HC. The speculation on who was coming in was ridiculous. Then:Elvis:jumped ship and left everyone in a double tailspin wondering who the new QB was. In the end, it turned out OK and there's nothing anybody could do anyways. I'm going to sit back, not read a damn article about who will be HC next year and watch the playoffs. And wonder just how far the 2005 Chiefs could have made it.

I hope the rumors are bogus, but I doubt it.
