Alot of you are aware that I do not like NASCAR whatsoever and yet my mrs and her sisters are huge fans and have been trying to convert me for some time.

Well tonight we received a late Christmas gift from one of her sisters and it is a ride along at the Kansas Speedway.I was speechless and yes I even thought, you've got to be kidding me.

If my mrs is reading this it's not meant to poke fun at the gift I've already said it was a gift and I will go along for the ride.

Personally,I do not think this will change my mind whatsoever towards NASCAR but if it makes my wife and her sisters happy I'm going to do it.

If I'm wrong and am converted into a NASCAR fan after the ride along I'm counting on my friends here at the planet to support me and rally with me and please please help me come back to my senses.

Thanks for listening.

Sticking your arm out the window, making little birdie motions with your hand, and giving the wall the white glove test at 150MPH could be cool, depending on how crazy the driver is.

my sister-in-law bought 15 laps in Nextel Cup car for my borther for their anniversary. My brother isn't a NACAR fan, rather, NHRA, etc...but he LOVED it. Averaged 160MPH. I thought it was cool he got to actually drive the car for 15 laps.

Have fun.

I don't understand how any guy can not like NASCAR. It's extremely powerful cars driving extremely fast in close proximity to each other and, quite often, crashing in spectacular fashion. What the hell else could you want?

I had a great ride with Davey Hamilton in a 2 seat indy car at Atlanta Motor speedway. We did 180mph and about 3.2Gs in the turns, and let's just say I walked away with a whole new respect for race drivers. My ass was WORN OUT after trying to hold my head up for 4 laps around there at 30 mph under pole speed. I honestly can't imagine the stamina it takes to do it for 2-3 hours.

Here's the car I rode in:

It just cracks me up when I hear some baseball writer debating whether or not race drivers are athletes. Hell, most baseball players couldn't fit in a racecar, much less last more than an hour at speed in one.

Uh, that's not for me either. I really don't have any desire to see a race live. It's something to watch on weekends when there's no football. It can be incredibly boring sometimes, but so can baseball or golf. Plus someone could die.

Yeah, I'll bet the 3 sisters would enjoy my NASCAR discussion. You could fit my knowledge of the "sport" into a Viagra capsule.

There's only one word to describe todays ride-a-long.

WOW!!

I still wouldn't want to sit and watch and race but if you like a good roller coaster and whether you like Nascar or not you owe it to yourself to try one of these.

Our top speed was 165 and I was doing okay until the last lap when my driver decided she(yes I said she)would give me a feel of what the wall was like.On turn 3 I could've reached out the net and touched the wall and it was then and there I found myself thinking okay this was a blast but that was a little too close.

I've always said even though I don't like Nascar I respect what the drivers can do,well after today I still don't like Nascar but I've gained even a greater respect for what these drivers do.

chefsos
05-13-2006, 11:21 PM
I figured that would be your reaction. Everyone I've ever heard from who's done that says that by watching on TV or from the stands, you don't get what it feels like in the car. They usually make the roller coaster comparison, too, as well as saying the car feels like shit 'til it's at speed. These cars are built to do one thing: go fast.

Sounds like you had a hell of a time. Was it hot? Loud? Rough? G-forces push on ya?
